I find her innocence and quietness quite attractive. She did an excellent job in Nobuta and Kurosagi. I'm so going to watch her next upcoming drama Tongue

Thank you so much Seghal!!!

I believe she was 16 when she shot Horikita Shinkaron... Tongue

Has anyone seen Chakushin Ari Final (One Missed Call Final)? She plays the girl hell-bent on vengeance there... From the trailer, it looks like she's one heartless killer (well, they bullied her first, but still... Tongue ) That should be enough to break the innocent quiet image Smile Here's the official webpage: http://www.chakuari.jp/web/ (she definitely ain't friendly there! Goggle eyes )

Denwa, do you want the whole thing translated or only the most interesting parts? It's really a list of things and the most interesting part is probably section 2: "Personality"... Anyhow, I took the liberty to translate the parts which I thought were interesting, or otherwise not as widely available in English than the other parts... http://wiki.theppn.org/Horikita_Maki has info on her dramas, movies, and PVs (she does not sing in them, just acts)...

The table of contents on Wikipedia run as follows: 1. Brief Curriculum Vitae / 2. Personality Traits (Translated below) / 3. Appearances (3.1 Movies, 3.2 Television Dramas, 3.3 Documentaries, 3.4 Varieties, 3.5 Radio, 3.6 PV, 3.7 CM/Posters) / 4. DVD / 5. Printed Materials (5.1 Photobooks, 5.2 Calendars, 5.3 Magazines [5.3.1. Serials]) / 6. See Also / 7. External Links

I am not native and therefore, I am sure I will be prone to mistakes... Please go easy on me if you find any mistakes, the bulk of my Japanese is culminated from a lot of self-teaching and little proper instruction (my mother was sorta bent on making sure I stay away from the language, but I finally got several months worth of instruction without telling her and it helped immensely... I moved and hadn’t found another instructor yet though... eventually though, all in good time...) So if there are any mistakes (I am quite sure there are) please tell me and I will correct it... This is only to help people get a grasp of what is written in the Japanese Wikipedia entry and should only be used as a guide... I hope that I was able to do the original work justice, but I am certain I have fallen short on many counts... Nonetheless, I hope that this helps some people out there...

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Introduction:
Horikita Maki (Ho-ri-ki-ta Ma-ki, real name unreported, Born: 6 October 1988) is an actress from Kiyose, Tokyo. She is managed by Sweet Power. Her blood type is B. Her fan club is known as "Horikita Collection".*

*NOTE 1: Just a general piece of information, Maki came 22nd out of 493 female celebrities in a nationwide survey for most desired girlfriend. Predictably, Aya Ueto topped the charts on that one. Tongue

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Side Panel:
Nicknames: Makimaki, Homaki (No agreement on one nickname has been established for mass communication)
Measurements (as of November 2003): Height: 160cm / Three Sizes: B78 W58 H83
Modelling Activity: Debut: 2003 / Genre: Advertising / Modelling Material: General / Other Activities: Actress*

*NOTE 1: Here, she is treated primarily as a model and the categories listed above are those that she could be found under, so don’t be expecting any provocative pictures from her unless there is a material/genre change. But I personally prefer her to stay the way she is. Another genre is gravure and other modelling material could include swimwear for example... Smile

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Personality Traits:
- When she was young, she wanted to become Sailormoon, a female ninja, a policewoman, and a rich person.*
- In her junior school years, she served as student council vice-president and vice-captain of the basketball club.
- As she became more active in the entertainment industry, she put her club and council activities on hold. Being unable to meet her many commitments, she finally withdrew from her school activities after much deliberation.
- In middle school, she had a boyfriend of three years. “They’d split up time and time again, but they usually worked out their differences and it continued like this for three years” (according to acquaintances) (from FLASH EX 2006 January 30 Edition)**
- In middle school, she was described as the “Boss of 3-C” in a number various writings. This was in recognition of her status as class leader. (from FLASH EX 2006 January 30 Edition)
- On her days off, she generally spends it outdoors. Shopping with friends or going to the karaoke for example.
- Her household consists of 5 people: her father, mother and her two younger sisters. She treasures her family and enjoys spending time with them.
- When her father was in high school, he was part of the football (soccer) club and sumo club. While still a junior school student, he joined a female football team that was created for the sake of tournament. He also has swimming school experience.
- While she was in junior school, she preferred to play Dragon Ball with the boys more than playing with the girls. (This was because with the girls, she couldn’t play the princess the way she wanted in the princess make-believe games)
- In middle school, she enjoyed playing basketball or baseball with her friends on holidays.
- She’s bad at things like variety show talks, and one could see that she’s often at a loss for a response.
- She has poor eyesight, and because she uses contact lens she has said that her eyes get dry from things like photographic sessions.
- She has a preference for Japanese food.
- Her hobby is reading, and she really enjoys reading from authors like Ekuni Kaori, Onda Riku, and Alex Shearer. Her favourite manga is “Seito Shokun!” (She doesn’t usually read manga. In primary school, her friend invited her to join the manga club which ended up being a regrettable episode in her childhood.)
- She has an independent character, one that refuses to lose under any circumstance. “Even in trifle playing around, she can become dead serious.” (according to acquaintances) (from FLASH EX 2006 January 30 Edition)
- She’s really bad at the Yamanote-sen Game. (She would show right away that the decision itself is unfavourable.)***
- Her favourite subject is English. She’s not very good with mathematics.
- She’s highly capable of reading the questioner’s mind, making her see through the answers in multiple-choice tests. She has mentioned that she can score 40 points on multiple-choice questions alone. (A good proportion of the correct answers in the national language test are “u”, according to her)****
- She’s under the same agency as Kuroki Meisa and is good friends with her. A year and a half since graduating from middle school, they were on living terms at the agency’s dormitories. (from SPA!) She is highly appreciative of Meisa’s leading stage roles in “Atami Satsujin Jiken (Atami Murder Case)” and “Azumi”.*****
- She is fond of peace overall, she loves yukatas and kimonos, and having them on in photographs and such makes her appear extremely happy.
- Because of the shadow patterns that fall on her face and the ambience that results, she has made countless appearances as the lead of horror films.******
- Remioromen’s Maeda Keisuke, in “SCHOOL OF LOCK!” uttered in a talk that “she is the kind of daughter I would like to have”.*******
- She’s weak at drawing pictures and was told by Yamashita Tomohisa that she has “no artistic drawing talent”. She also drew a picture in “SCHOOL OF LOCK!”
- She likes the artists, SMAP, EXILE, Hirai Ken, SPITZ, Gospellers, and such.
- She was brought together with Yamashita Tomohisa and Kamenashi Kazuya at one time through Nobuta. wo Produce, and enjoys watching SUMMARY (Johnny’s Agency Entertainment Show). She has on occasions gone to see EXILE, Hirai Ken and D-51 lives.
- At the karaoke, she enjoys singing songs from SPEED, YUKI and such. When she went occasionally to karaoke with Yamashita Tomohisa and Kamenashi Kazuya, she was taught the dance choreography to Seishun Amigo.
- She has said herself, that she received her drama co-star Yamashita Tomohisa’s “Daite Senorita” (Yamashita Tomohisa’s solo debut song) CD (In Gout Temps Nouveau ※She also received the “Sayaendou (Podded Peas)” CD). On that CD, her character’s name “Tsurara” (Pillar of Ice) is not to be found, instead “Eijyuu” (Permanent Residence) is written. (according to herself)********
- Horikita Maki’s views of love: In the Gout Temps Nouveau episode she mentioned out her uncommon views on love by saying “I don’t believe that you can make yourself love someone you love” and “I would like to see the person I love”, surprising Esumi Makiko and Wakatsuki Chinatsu who were there at time. Incidentally Esumi Makiko asked if seeing Yamashita Tomohisa did not cause her heart to start racing, to which Maki answered “My co-star is someone I work with and I cannot see him in any other light.” Nonetheless, the conversation about whether she had any time to spare for love in her current life continued. Esumi Makiko continued to ask “To this day, have you ever been hurt by a strong love?” bidding Maki to respond “I have. But to become a good person, we have to have cried before, don’t you agree?” Further to this, the question was posed “Have you ever done something such as kissing (with a guy)?” and Maki replied “A while ago, for work (photographing a photobook) I started kissing a little girl.” As for kissing a guy, she has neither confirmed nor denied it. She fixed her eyes on Esumi’s face before looking away.*********
- “I’m a little bit the type of person that keeps thinking about who I am throughout the day... (When asked “Are you an otaku like Densha Otoko?”)” (from Gekkan TV October 2005)
- “If one is going to marry, financial freedom is also important.” “With conniving people, I can see through them with a glance.” (from CIRCUS)
- “I feel that the question of when someone connects with their loved one is insignificant.” “If my parents were to choose for me, I would greatly appreciate it.” “I don’t think I am the type that can sustain something like a long distance relationship. Even if it’s only the neighbouring high school, I would get the feeling that it’s become a great distance.” (from JUNON May Issue “Horikita Maki’s Love and Friendship Counselling Room”)
- “I have male friends!” (in TV Ojyamanbou)
- “Do you know what the hibiscus represents? (In floral language, it signifies new love.) Everybody is yearning.” (February personal comment on GIRLS LOCKS! site)**********

*NOTE 1: How can anyone not love Maki from just reading that? Tongue
**NOTE 2: I think it’s safe to assume that everything from FLASH EX is from her acquaintances and not Maki herself... Smile
***NOTE 3: The Yamanote-sen Game basically has a group of people and one person starts off by deciding a topic. After that, participants name elements relating to that topic in turn. The person who takes too long or repeats an answer loses.
****NOTE 4: Multiple choice in Japanese is done in (obviously) their own system of language. Hence the Japanese “u” would be equivalent to answer “c” in English multiple choices.
*****NOTE 5: Maki and Meisa are cast alongside one another in Chakushin Ari Final (One Missed Call Final) which opened in Japanese theatres last month.
******NOTE 6: One only needs to see the list of movies she is in to verify that Maki is the face of horror! But we still love her, right?
*******NOTE 7: SCHOOL OF LOCK! is a radio show on Tokyo FM.
********NOTE 8: Gout Temps Nouveau is a talk show on Kansai TV that airs on Wednesdays. Maki was a guest on that show on 21 June 2006. Sayaendou is NewS (Yamapi’s band) latest single (if I am not mistaken). The note on character names is about Kurosagi and is probably about Yamapi’s Daite Senorita CD although I am not sure why the swap occurred, it may have been to get around copyright issues, or it may have only been on her copy of the CD so as to tease Maki, or it could have been a genuine mistake, nonetheless the kanji for “Tsurara” (氷柱) and “Eijyuu” (永住) are extremely similar.
*********NOTE 9: The last part could hint something, although what it hints should be left to the imagination of the reader. Tongue
**********NOTE 10: GIRLS LOCKS! is basically SCHOOL OF LOCK! Smile

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Phew... that was long... very long... LOL... I have to say, I am not very good with matching the grades of schools and their equivalents... so I simply translated the school classifications (junior, middle, and high depending on the kanji) literally...

Anyhow, while I am at it I will summarise the last post by Maki as well for oppa92... be warned though, it’s not all that interesting... Tongue

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Summary of Maki’s Diary (Saturday, 24 June 2006):

She says that Kurosagi has finally been brought to its conclusion and asked what people thought of it. She saw it earlier than others in an opening event.

She notes that she was excited of course and after hearing about the untold stories from the staff also managed to see the place (of the event) in a different light.

She is glad that everything turned out well with the show and expects to hear what people thought about it.

Then the next day (which was the 25th of June) there will be more openings of Chakushin Ari Final... She will be in events in Tokyo before heading out to Kyoto to open the movie there as well...

She also notes that Broadcaster (TBS show) will be out on the 25th (I don’t know how that relates to her, except that she could be a fan of the show or perhaps a guest commentator?)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
LOL... I am getting really tired and my eyes are getting strained... I haven’t read so much Japanese in some time now... Forgive me if it’s all littered with mistakes... God bless fansubbers and their immense work!!! This was little compared to what they do... Again, please help correct me if there are any mistakes... by mistakes I mean error in meaning, not error in choice of words but still along the same lines of meaning... I generally translate “on-the-fly” which is that I read something, translate it to how my mind read its meaning but without always considering every word of the original text... the aim is to get the meaning across, sorry if people disagree with this method of translation, but it’s what works best for me... other than that, if I did misunderstand and completely messed up, please help me! I would only be grateful to learn where I went wrong, but please be gentle... I don’t admit to be an expert of the language... only a student still learning the ropes that is grateful for any help along the way... Smile

I couldn't help but laugh, female ninja how adorable Laugh I'm sure she's on the way to the latter...

Yeah I sort of saw that, she seems hesitant at times.

uhg, I just did a google translation on the wiki topic, and it was too literal. So I'd say that yfcrystalise's translation was pretty accurate (good job).

anyways, she isn't that good in math huh? Well, if she needs a math tutor, she can call me up any day! Tongue

You're really welcome Big Smile I hope there are not too many errors in there though, LOL...

I have to admit though, I was also wondering what happened in the manga club... But yea, if my understanding of the langauge didn't fail me, the key to Maki's heart seems to lie with her parents Tongue Denwa, I guess your first aim is to win her parent's hearts! LOL, I'm sure they will help her deal with the distance!!

But I have to say, the moment you read her childhood ambitions, you knew she was a winner Tongue LOL...

Anyhow, since everyone has decided to take up giving her lessons at her weak points, I guess I will just have to settle with being her English partner then... LOL... She can practice all she wants with me Tongue
