Dare Yori mo Mama wo Aisu Ep 11. Enjoy. salut

Translation Notes
EP 11: "Aisai" is a word that comes up a lot in this episode, and it doesn't translate very well. If you listen to Kaoru's introduction at the beginning of every episode, you'll hear him say "Nippon ichi no aisaika na no desu!" at the very end of his dialogue. I chose to translate this as "No man in Japan loves his wife more!" and I think this is the aim of the writers to use the literal meaning of "aisai" (love wife) instead of the more common usage that means something like "a loving wife." Tsunami-san's joke at the end of the episode, saying that Mama is an "aifuka" uses the same logic to create a word meaning "a woman who loves her husband."

"Aisai bento" is usually a homemade lunch given to a husband full of beautiful food; a lot of jokes are made about these bento when people are dating.

The name of Yamashita's manzai act is "Hotaru no Hikari, Mado no Yuki" which means "Firefly's Light, Window's Snow." Comedians often take stage names, which is why I only translated the first part of the name, but left the second part as "character names."

Ep 10: Yamashita's jokes don't make a whole lot of sense in translation, and they're kinda lame to start with. A "kiku-ningyo" is a chrysanthemum shaped puppet. His joke about underwear and bread hinges is a word pun. Underwear ("pantsu") and bread (pan) + two (TSU) sound the same, and explain why he has them.

Ep 8: Akira is spends most of the first half of the episode obsessing over his gayness, leading him to hear the words "okama," "gay," and "homo" nearly everywhere he goes. There is one line of Papa's dialogue that I didn't translate when he is talking about buying a pressure cooker -- I couldn't figure out a way to accurately translate the pun. In any case, its main purpose is to repeat "okama" about 4 times, heightening Akira's discomfort level with each repetition.

EP 4: Japanese humor depends a great deal on word puns. Papa and Pinko have an exchange in the early part of Ep. 4 dealing with food-related homonyms and word plays. I've tried my best to translate what the line of dialogue is, as well as show what the word play was. (Just look at the object in their hand while they're talking to get a better idea of what they're talking about)[/b]
