What time warner service package do you have? I have 3.0Megabits SBC at&t DSL and my MAX dl speed is 300kbps when dling from a server. On torrent when i dl dramas, and if there are fast seeders, it goes around 200kbps. If you download porn on torrent, its Amazingly fast, i often get 300kbps on a single file...LOls |
I have Time Warner unlimited. The conn speed is 100 Mbits /s. I just downloaded a 140 MBytes file from a Megaupload server in 20 mins, which means my DL speed was ~120 KBytes /s.
At the same time, my BitTorrent is chucking along at 6 KB/s. It takes me days to get an episode.
What am I doing wrong with Torrents?

Are you sure Time Warner offers a 100mbit/s connection? I'm pretty sure Time Warner used Road Runner for their internet service and the max i've seen so far is 5mbit/s. What bittorrent client are you using? Are you using a router or firewall? Is there enough seeders?

The internet properties display shows my speed to be 100 mbits/s. Maybe it is not entirely accurate but judging from the download I got from MegaUpload, it should be pretty good.
I use Bit Torrent program. The computer is at home. I don't have a h/w nor s/w firewall. I actually turn off my s/w firewall to test but there is no difference. There may not be a lot of seeders but there are some. I don't expect 100KB/sec download but I would hope for more than 5KB/s.

If you plug in any ethernet cable, it shows 100Mbps, that is the MAX connection for any ethernet lan cable, NOT your actucal internet service. as I've said, my DSL is conecting at 3Mbit/s...but it shows as 100Mb/s on the lan connection also. I believe you have the 784Kbit/s road runner cable.
