| I just watched up to ep10....GREAT! I think your translation definitely improved! Thanks again, can't wait for 11, which I believe is the final. I really feel bad for the guy...how unlucky can he be?

Thanks. I agree that the subtitles are getting better, to the point that I find the first couple of episodes a bit embarrassing. Once Episode 11 is done, I'll go back and rework at least Episodes 1 and 2. Back then, I was still thinking of my versions as raw material for the real subtitlers to use; now I see that I'm pretty much it.
As part of the reworking, I'll also bundle the subtitles into single English and Japanese files, .rar or .zip, eliminating the car crash that the first post has become. But I'd like to get the most important fixes made before I do the bundling.
This would be a really good time to offer suggestions for what needs fixing the most!

| Whoof. Just finished the first cut at subtitles for Episode 11, which means I have now finished watching the show! (Capsule review: sad, good.) Repairs and fill-in on this one should be comparatively easy, so I should be able to upload the files in a couple of days.

Well, I've kinda played hooky, revising Episode 1 instead of finishing Episode 11. I hadn't expected Episodes 1 or 2 to be downloaded very much before they were revised (this was back when I was still expecting comments!), and they're considerably more ragged than the later episodes. On the off chance that there's a rise in downloads when I finish the series, I wanted to fix up Episode 1 to give a better initial impression. Please note the new and improved end credits, plus the fact that I no longer call Erina "Ebina", "Edina", or "eri no". I still can't understand half of what Haruhiko says.
I'll resist the urge to rework Episode 2, and try to get Episode 11 out within a few days.

ans- Yeah, I liked the book, too, but they've made huge changes. (Stop reading here if you don't want to know details about the book -- I won't talk much about the drama). In the book, Haru is isolated to a much larger degree -- for instance, instead of spending about half a hour away from the scientists and his teacher, it's a matter of several months. His boss at the bread shop is not nearly so kind. And while he still has his high intelligence (this is still the book I'm talking about, mind you), he and his teacher agree that after he regresses, he'll be checked into a state home for the retarded, which she plans never to visit! (Too painful.)
I agree with the changes, generally. Stretched into eight hours of TV, the book would be too grim to bear, I think. I've never seen the movie version of the story, "Charlie" -- does anybody know whether it's closer to Algeron the book or Arugyaanon the bangumi?

Well, here's Episode 11, the last one. There are two conversations in this show which contain untranslated lines, one between Haruhiko and Haru, and one between Erina and Dragon Lady (a.k.a. Haru's mom). Sorry, but I just want to ship this thing, and I don't think the missing bits will confuse you. When I get a chance to run this by some native speakers, I'll post a revised version.
This might be a good time for some of you to do some re-seeding of any or all episodes, if you have a little bandwidth to spare. I'd sure appreciate it.

OK, I've made a first attempt to simplify the downloads. I've bundled all the Japanese versions (which weren't exactly flying off the shelf anyway) into a single big .rar file, and removed the individual files. If this works, I'll do the same for the English versions in a short while.
You'll see that the Japanese .rar file (and eventually, the English one, too) has a version number. I expect that I'll keep messing around with the individual files that make up the bundled version, and when I replace any of them I'll change the .rar version number. I know this means you'll be downloading a lot of files that haven't changed, but they're not that big, and you can quickly discard the duplicates.
If I ever get versions that I think are pretty much perfect, I'll change the .srt file names to match the .avi file names, within the .rar file. Don't hold your breath.
Thanks to gryzze, and it looks like several others, for seeding!

| I just wanted to let you know that I'm still working on this thing. I'm about halfway through an improved version of Episode 2, and it should be up in a couple of days. It still won't be perfect, but it'll be a whole lot better. (And it'll have periods.)
