Aruganon ni Hanataba wo

(November 24, 2006) I've improved the organization of this entry a bit, to make the subtitles easier to download. Subtitles are in proper numerical order, now, and I've eliminated the version number from their names, so they don't have to be renamed before use. I've omitted the Japanese (romaji) versions; send me a message if you want those. The files' content is the same as back in March -- some episodes are pretty good, some pretty rough. Comments, as always, are welcome.

debye, why not run the parts of the Japanese script that you don't know through a Japanese to English translator like babelfish?

I don't know what debye thinks bu I knowt a Japanese to English system like Babelfish is incredibly inaccurate and content that's put through it comes out as garbled junk. You'd be better off asking 1st year College or High School students to do the translation over babelfish.

Hi, Akiramike.The weak link in subtitling, for me, is getting from spoken to written Japanese. Babelfish, or any one of a number of useful translation aids like Google Translator or my big green Kenkyusha dictionary, require written Japanese to work. Presumably there are Japanese voice transcription programs, but I don't own one, and I have doubts how well they'd work in the presence of music and sound effects.
Shouta- I agree, what's needed here is nice friendly humans to help me fix the Japanese or English transcriptions.

Incidently, I'm from the US, and I''ve been studying Japanese for about six years.

Hi, all--
I'm about halfway through subtitling Aruganon episode 2 now. (I'm stilll on the speech by Haru's mother -- what a piece of work she is!) I still haven't heard any feedback on epsiode 1, though, so I haven't yet been able to make improvements to that. Any comments, especially on the Japanese text of episode 1, would be very welcome.
