Hey, I'm trying to fix up the engrish subs for Handoku. I see the phrase "lovelace",but I'm not sure if that's the correct translation. It was translated from japanese --> chinese --> very poor engrish.

In japanese it sounds something like "erugappa" (forgive my listening skills) Alcoholic

Can someone help me with this?

the dialogue btwn a guy and a girl went like this:

girl: "lovelace!!" (very angry)
guy: "lovelace??" (shocked, happy expression)
guy: "Nymphomania" (stil shocked and happy)

Maybe it's some reference to Linda Lovelace, of Deep Throat fame? That's the only thing I can think of that sorta fits in with your context.

I agree in the context of a girl talking to a guy, saying LOVELACE, sounds like Linda Lovelace of DEEPThROAT (XXX film) fame (I know from only from the watergate scandal heh).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linda_Lovelace

It sounds like it especially in character expressions you described.

tikleabubble, i asked my japanese friend what it means, there apparently isn't a literal translation for it, but the word is "erogappa" and according to her it's spelled in katakana and derives from a little character that's halfnaked and appears in japan in ads for sake. don't ask me what brand though. Laugh

ero is clear to you i'm sure and gappa derives from kappa, a halfhuman, halfturtle little guy, who is considered "sukebe" looking because of his halfdressed state so to speak.
so basically the girl is calling him something akin to sukebe, except it's a uniquely japanese expression, therefore difficult to translate.
but i hope the general meaning helps. Big Smile

ooh thanks ironic wave!! I guess I'll just leave it as "erogappa" and maybe make a note of it on the video. Thanks!
