Hi:
Fine by me. Take your time, after all, you're doing me a favor. Let me know if you don't hate the experience, there are 2 other "conversations" I'd love to eavesdrop on.

You know, one thing you could offer to most fansubbers is to translate the credits. We almost never know who wrote, directed, etc. the shows--or even who besides the main character acts in them. If they aren't big enough yet to be included in JDorama's listings, viewers who can't read Japanese are clueless. Since I'm a fan of the writers, directors, etc. I look up this info wherever on the web I can find it, but it's not always obtainable.

There are a couple of subbers, Dust Off included, who translate signs, letters, etc that appear in whatever they're subbing, but most don't. As their interest is the dialogue, it makes sense, but . . . it would sometimes be nice to know.

thanks again for the help! Smile

Sorry I'm being so lazy..
here's most of episode 9's text translated

I'm going to retype the japanese, then put my best translation below it

Whenever something is in half-intelligible engrish, it's because I wasn't

sure about the context

Episode 9
34:39
運命って言葉、一生聞きたくない!
"I don't want to hear about 'Fate' for a lifetime!"

私より不幸な青年もいるんだ
"He has an even more unhappy youth than I"
(?)

なんて切り出せばいいんだ
"I really need to break the ice here.."

だめだ
話の流れがマズイほうにいってる

"No dice
This conversation is going badly.."
("The conversation's flow is going in a bad direction/side")

こいつの目的は何だろう

"What's this guy planning..?"

結婚は5年生まで考えたくない。。。。とすると

"Until 5th year of school don't want to contemplate marriage.. says will

decide"
possibly: "I don't want to think about marrying anyone before their 5th

year of school.. that's what I'll tell him"

カラダ目当て?
"Is he trying to get some?"
(?? literally: is his purpose 'body'/'health'?)

11コも上じゃ、カラダでもない。。。とすると
(??) More than/above 11 (something).. not 'body'.. will decide

カネ目当て!

"His goal is money!"

-------------------

41:06
Out loud: "Will you marry me?" (literally: Shall I marry?)

あー、やっと言えた!
"I was finally able to say it!"

Girl, out loud: "haha.. whom?"

伝わってないし。。
"She's not going along with it..."

Out loud: "Naoko-san, please marry me and together, go to (???)"

これって若さの勢い?
単なる酔っ払い?
"Is this the force of youth?
...
"Or is it simple drunkenness?"

Out loud: "So in other words, you're scared of going to (???) alone!"

"yeah.. but that's not all."

わかりやすくて、カワイイ~

"Easy to understand, so cute"

Out loud: "?????????????????????????????????????"

33年間生きてて、こんなに嬉しいこと初めて言われた

"In 33 years of living, this is the first time something this happy has

been said"

生きてて良かった

"It's good that I lived" (???)

Guy, out loud: "b.. but, you don't have to respond right now"

Girl, out loud: "p.. please give me some time to contemplate this"

Guy: "H.. How long?"

Girl: "About give minutes"

はやっ!

"That's fast!"

Out loud: "got it.. I'll wait here"

If I'm dreaming, I don't want to be woken up

I'll do episode 10 in the next few days if at all possible

All my time is being eaten up by:
- World of Warcraft (lv 60 paladin on Destromath, misc other chars)
- Intensive Third Year Japanese at the university of washington (test and homework every day, plus 4 hours of class)
- Electrical Engineering project I'm supposed to be working on

I've noticed that watching untranslated japanese tv shows and playing untranslated japanese video games is a really good way to reinforce what I've learned in class and learn more, though, so I'll put more effort into it

Thanks, this is really helpful! Big Smile

Context help-- She's 11 years older than he is and he's being sent to work in Mongolia as punishment for fighting while on a company sponsored training trip.

Since you're more interested in the action oriented stuff, how would you feel about translating the credits on an interesting series they showed at 1 a.m. Saturday mornings this spring? It's called Holyland and is based on a manga about street fighters Big Smile . In Hollywood terms, think starwars without the aliens meets every young gunfighter Western made(minus the guns), with a little helping of High Noon as the cherry on top! It was uploaded to ABMJ recently, but it's only got Chinese subtitles, and I only know the name of the main actor in the piece. I'd like to know the names of the top five characters and the director, the writer and the fight choreographer. I could get the actors names, etc. from the show's website if I could read Japanese, but Google' translator mangles names there.

I'm looking around for the raw files, which I know the subber, Souka has, but Google doesn't translate Chinese well enough to let me sign onto the website he lists in the opening credits and I can't leave him a message. It may be a while, so don't sweat it any! I'm trying to pass a message back to him via the poster at ABMJ, but haven't heard anything. I don't like smash and bash much, but I really liked this series.

Like you, I'm watching more unsubtitled stuff to improve my Japanese, but this has a lot of street slang and martial arts terms, so I'm more clueless than usual. If I don't find these as torrents anywhere, I may post them later this month with the Chinese subtitles. They are short episodes--13 half hour shows--so I can figure out the seeding hassles with my network and use them for practice.

Well, in that case, "mongu" is mongolia, I think

I guess that if I get the credits I can print out the names and have my japanese teacher read them all for me, if you want

If you can just get semi-readable screenshots of all the credits you want translated I can hook you up, dawg

both junkboy77, kryptolus wants to do this jdrama. 1st ep is 90% done waiting for Quality check. So pm them for info. kryptolus doesn't want to use the korean timed subs, but junkboy77 does.

Finish class, celebrate your good Japanese grade, then get back to me. I'm glad it's been useful for you! I'll figure out the screenshot thing. The player I'm currently using is fussy about what film formats it will capture, but I have others, so it may be a while before I get you the Holyland credits.

I understand there is a team (?) planning to sub Holyland. Maybe they could use your talents. There isn't much written stuff in the show itself, just a few grafitti shots and of course, the credits. Small enough not to interfere in next semester?? If you're interested or just want to pass on what you translate for me here, check the Holyland thread in Japanese Entertainment to get their e-mail address. (Wait, the sender gave it to me in a PM, so if you want it just let me know and I'll pass it along that way--another adventure in posting for me!)

Thanks again.

It shouldn't be too tricky to take a snapshot of a show.. you don't have to worry about the format you put the images in

I have access to photoshop, so I can just reformat them and then e-mail or visit my teacher to find out the readings
