I was just wondering why people re-encode series with hardsubs.. Why not just release the sub files. Obviously this saves alot of bandwidth/time.
For example the whole series of Last Christmas was released twice on this site, one RAW version and one Hardsubbed. Do the encoders of hardsubbed versions of dramas release the sub files so all the people who got the RAW version can use subs?

I like hardsub more because I could watch on my DIVX player without the need to worry about subtitle. Even though, some subtitle are just bad..

You right, there hasn't been a lot of activity going on in ebay. Well, I haven't seen the infamous gingertoys2 lately. Maybe, they started to crackdown on those that sell fansub works. Who know Smile

Before, there used to be a lot of sellers and they were easy to spot when you typed the named of the drama.

hardsubs aqre just less hassle and usually if their hardsubbed you usually dont have to worry about it being synched incorrectly... plus hardsubbed files are one step closer to making DVDR's

subbing is a hard work, and some wants to secure their hard work from lurkers and thiefs.

I used to be for soft subs and I kinda still prefer it but really after watching some fantastic hardsub works on Japanese dramas where they insert translated words here and there and also gives eleborate description, I must say hardsubs are REALLY great.

It allows for more creativity. Tongue

Hmmm... well as a former (anime) fansubber myself. I use to like hardsubs, however with the new advances in effects, people are just getting too wild with their styles and typesetting putting in the stupidest effects or colors and using extremely illegible fonts. Really annoys the hell out of me. I like the adjustibilty of soft subs, I can lower or increase the size and color of the font to whatever I prefer, and if I'm really annoyed with the editing, I could edit the script myself.

I cant see how hardsubs deter ebay pirates.
I like softsubs because it gives me the option to turn subs off.
Hardsubs are just a waste of bandwidth/time/money.
Need hardsubs for your dvd player? encode them yourself.

Ummm... Then save your bandwidth/time/money by not downloading the hardsubs. Problem fixed!

Anyway, I still like soft subs because I can edit them. Some of the files encoded with hard subs are over the size limit for CD-Rs, I can't burn them. That's one of the disadvantages.
