There was 1 drama. It was followed by 2 or 3 specials, and mentioned above there is another one coming. Hakusen was based during senior year of high school. The first special was when they were 19 I think, then when they were 20 or 22? I forget. But they keep making specials to show what happens in the story later. It's pretty unusual for a drama to have so many specials following it, but that drama was particularly good. I don't remember how popular it was but I liked it a lot and it wouldn't surprise me if it was pretty popular in Japan.

when i watching Hakusen Nagashi 1996 version was almost two years later, it's about my F.5 year age.....pretty touching and I replay this all the time, and really fit for the feeling I had in my F.7.
And the special keeps onwards and my age, my situation also changes simultanteously.....really good fit for my living....that's why I always pretend I am Sonoko when I watching it... Big Smile

I'll just add on a little on what neonkinpatsu mentioned.

Hakusen Nagashi was a full length 10 epi full length drama which was broadcasted in the winter season of 1996 on Fujitv. A story of about 7 friends, 5 of them final year high schoolers... it was wildly popular as many identifed with is theme of graduation anxiety, the sweetness of young teenage love and friendship.... making its 2 male leads, Nagase Tomoya and Kashiwabara Takashi very popular teenage idols. Think of the craze over these 2 back then similar to what is happening now over Kame & Jin of Gokusen 2 but perhaps even hotter since there're so many cute young things these days. Nagase in particular (who was 16 then) was voted top 10 most desirable man in the Anan polls that following April, a feat never achieved before by any male under the age of 20

Nagase was already a very popular teen idol before this drama... being a one of the more prominent Johnny's Junior before his official debute with Tokio in 1994. Just like how Johnny's Jimusho promotes its younger stars these days, Nagase had appeared in many other dramas in supporting roles prior to 1996. Hakusen Nagashi is his first leading role and this drama cemented his leading man status since then.

As many identified with the story, seeing the 7 as reflections of themselves. Fujitv will film a drama sp like almost evey 2 yrs, to "update" the die-hard hands on the lives of these 7 friends. 4 drama specials has been made so far. (1997, 1999,2001.2003) The final one which is going to air in autumn will be the 5th and will mark the official end of this story.

I guess it's fair to say that Hakusen Nagashi played a huge part in shaping Nagase's career. Leaving you with a quote that he made sometime back in an interview " I consider Hakusen Nagashi to be the defining point of my acting career. It was the first time that i started to realise what it meant to be a professional actor, and to work with the many people who are involved in a production".

Although this is a fairly old drama. cos of its popularity... it's fairly easy to obtain dvdrips of this series and its specials in the japanese file sharing networks like winmx or winny. There's a lot of people sharing the files which are ripped from the original Region 2 dvd set. I have not downloaded before since i bought the original set but a quick check on the networks over the weekend threw up quite a number of sources for this series.
