ah... forgot a very good recent movie "Survive Style 5+" Many funny story-lines
My favorite quote from it "What's your function in life" by some British serial killer before killing his victims if he wasn't happy with the answer

My most favorite Jmovies are probably Azumi 1 and 2 which were already mentioned. Also shurayuki hime. I thought that was a great film. You said don't mention any horror, but I gotta mention onmyoji just incase! I don't know that it's quite "horror" though.

and Love Letter was ok too..hehe I will never forger that girl shouting "ogenki desu ka? watashi ha genki desu!!" Laugh I don't know why but I find this film very entertaining Tongue

ohh just thought about another one..have you seen Hush! (or something like that)? this was one of the funniest films I've ever seen Laugh

If you're in the mood for some comedy, I recommend these two movies:

Waterboys
Swing Girls

They're both directed by the same director and the two movies are enough to make you laugh until you can't breathe! Big Smile

I have watched Tampopo many years ago. It's interesting from a cultural point of view but yet it talks about stuff that we face everyday, food, sex, love, etc.

Azumi 1 and 2 rock! The best Japanese action movies I have seen.

Audition is a very suspenseful movie. Scary for the faint of heart.

Twlight Samurai talks about the end of the Samurai age. A bit sad.

Zatochi is as violent and graphical as Azumi 1 and 2.

I will watch Cesshern, Battle Royale, Swing Girls, etc as recommended here.

Can't wait for a DVD release of Shinobi (Basilisk) currently played in Japan.

For those who want to download, try www.torrentz.com. For some reasons, I had problem with some audio that I had to readjust using Virtualdub.

I really like Tokyo Fist--about 1995. It is a dark boxing movie--kinda cult like following--not for everyone, but I rented it so many times--finally found a copy to d/l. Love the scene in the parking lot where the girl beats the guy up and he just takes it until his face is a total mess! That scene worth the price of rental. Anyone else seen it?

I recommend Stereo Future! It's by the same person who made Samurai Fiction (which I have not seen yet, but that's more commonly known). It seems like an artsy-fartsy type movie, and is a little slow at first, but then it gets very amusing and enjoyable! ^^
