Hitonatsu no Papa e DVD Project

Hello all,

I'm currently working on producing a DVD version of 'Hitonatsu no Papa e' using the subtitles on the KTSF version currently broadcasting and being capped by ap and my own JP DVDs.

I have had some translators who has been working on the deleted scenes (thanks qoogirl!) and checking the rest of the translation (thanks nexocentric!) I've also completely retimed the script from scratch as well, so no more lagging subtitles.

Here are some screenshots from the first episode of Hitonatsu no Papa e. I've done a comparison between the DVD version and ap's TV capture. All caps are at actual resolution. The aspect ratio of the TV broadcast seemed to be quite odd - heads are no longer stretched in the DVD version.

Here's a general subtitle comparison. The translation has been checked, tweaked and edited and I've used a nice clear font, so hopefully the subs are a lot easier to read.

I'm having my exams at university now, but I will try and get the DVD version out as soon as possible!

I've been doing a side by side comparison of the two versions and it's kind of odd. The KTSF version is missing tiny segments throughout - reaction shots of people's faces when they're not talking or shots where people are moving around, but not saying anything - lasting between 3-7 seconds and also a few whole scenes have been lifted entirely. There's a whole subplot about Marimo's friendship with Erika, the 'paid companion', that's missing - the KTSF version doesn't make much sense since we don't know how Marimo knows Erika or why she cares so much. There's also been a music substitution. This is pretty standard stuff when the broadcaster doesn't want to play for rights to original music a second time for the DVD releasel. An original song in the KTSF version (when Marimo and Shinpei are on the motorbike) is replaced with a slow piano rendition of the opening theme in the DVD version.

DVD version runtime is 1hr 6 secs, KTSF version is 48mins 41secs.

Ice cream parlour scene:

Lasts: 1 min 5 secs
Marimo is chatting to two friends about Shinpei when Erika enters the parlour and joins them.

Extended apartment scene:
Missing from: 15:40
Lasts: 30 secs
Shinpei and Marimo are arguing outside her apartment. After she says 'I won', she closes the door in his face and he walks away disgruntled. In the DVD version, Shinpei pulls the door back open and they continue arguing for a while longer before Marimo finally slams the door shut and locks it.

After Shinpei leaves, Marimo sits alone in the apartment looking at her mother's photo and asks her how could she could have ever of loved Shinpei (my semi-educated guess).

Following directly on from the last missing scene, Tanigawa visits the office, presumably to be threatened with the photos.

Looks beautiful!

I'm glad to have seen this anyway possible, but it would be nice to know what ktsf is leaving out. Some episodes seemed severely cut, and stopped making sense. Your work will be appreciated here : )
