I have to agree that the tracker needs a clean-up. I agree that we need to stick to Asian dramas, Asian movies, and soundtracks to such. I'm starting to see some random mp3's and PV's that I don't think belong on d-addicts.

Plus there are old and semi-old torrents up that haven't been seeded in a while. Rather than make a huge effort to reseed them one by one, week after week, I think they should be removed, like some people have stated above. Sure, we could always pull the eps off a DVD or CD and seed (I've even done that occasionally), but if a seeder requests it when it's not convenient for many or anyone at all, it kinda defeats the purpose of having it up while no one is seeding for a long time. That would take up unnecessary space and newbies would come by the truckload asking for seeds of old stuff (not that there's anything against that, but having old torrents there would make people want it). I click to view a certain category, like j-drama for example, and there are a TON of dead torrents that I have to comb through to find what I'm looking for. Investigator Mariko itself is taking up about 36 torrents >__<

When torrents are deleted, people could always reupload the series with a new torrent way later when it might be easier to handle or when there might be a demand again. Having too many torrents up at a time makes both reseeding difficult and downloading new stuff difficult....it's hard to keep up with everyone and keep them happy.

But, I do have one suggestion, although it might not matter in the least, but I think it *could* be helpful. I think we should make a list that's linked at the top of the main page that states which torrents were added and when, then when they were/removed (if the removing of dead torrents happens soon). They could be categorized into series to make that list not be as cluttered. Let me state an example, but this won't have literal dates, I'm throwing in fake ones:

Removed torrents list: (list links for series, movies, ost's, etc)

(link for Mariko Season 1, click)
(list appears for eps):

Investigator Mariko 1 ep 1: added 11/19/03 - removed 2/1/04
ep 2 added 11/27/03 - removed 2/1/04
ep 3 added 11/29/03 - removed 2/1/04
ep 4 added 11/30/03 - removed 2/1/04
ep 5 added 12/5/03 - removed 2/1/04
ep 6 added 12/7/03 - removed 2/1/04
ep 7 added 12/9/03 - removed 2/1/04
ep 8 added 12/13/03 - removed 2/1/04
ep 9 added 12/16/03 - removed 2/1/04

This way, when people see that a series was added at a certain time and they see when it was removed, the series won't be reuploaded by someone too soon after removal. I dunno, it's only a suggestion of mine. It might take too much time, work, and patience, and it might not even be any use.

I will do something, maybe later on in the week. Gotta work and study as well Roll Eyes

Here's the plan:

* Setup another table called archive_namemap (don't ask) with all the info such as uploader, date added, date removed, how many complete download, filename, hash etc

* Have an scheduler thread running that checks every 24 hours for torrents older than 60 days and is not currently being seeded. Copy all the existing data for those torrents over to the archive_namemap table.

* Delete everything about those torrent in the regular tables.

* Move the actually torrent files to another sub directory (just in case)

* Setup an archive page where you can query the archive_namemap table.

* go drink pearl ice tea, relax and watch some Morning Musume related shows Smile

I think some people should re-read my second long post. It addresses a lot of the issues of deleting/archiving that come up. I think what Ruroshin has planned is a step forward in the right direction. The torrent files will be stored and archived, and a possible Series of the Week event could occur. Though I don't know about the 60 day checker, as some episodes from a series could be unseeded for but a moment and automatically get archived. Though I can't really think of a better method, besides maybe posting a specific date/time when the files are going to be pulled. This way no one complains (well, there'll always be people who complain -_-).

I think once you pull out all the movies/music/videos that are non-drama related, the tracker will be feeling a lot better. =)

Don't worry if a file gets pulled into archive, all it takes is for someone with the file to upload the torrent again. At least this way it will hopefully force a bit of commitment to the person uploading it to seed it for those that want it.

Once you all agree to a "series of the week" then someone could just simply upload all the torrents for it and people will know about it because it'll be on the front page.

Anyway, we'll give it a try and see how things goes.

Alright, we'll give that a try.

I guess I'll kick off the Series of the Week with the oldest complete series on this server, and that's Otousan! Ruroshin, if you would do the honors, I'd like to get some seeders on Otousan. I'll be seeding starting from #1 and #2 today, and moving my way up.

its getting crazy. the amount of torrents posted here that has already been posted somewhere else, or torrents that are not complete and no information given and somemore.

don't you think the posting business is getting a little messed up.

I seriously think not just the posting needs to be organised. what i think is the people who posts the stuff on the site needs some consideration before posting it.

perhaps the site can setup a list of people who can post, instead of brainless posting like we keep seeing. or at least force people to get approved. i love this site. i hate to see it go poop.

I would hate to turn this site to a closed uploading one. This site is founded on the idea that it would be a place for fans of asian dramas and movies to openly share stuff that would otherwise be hard to find or obtain.

I like to keep it that way and lets hope my faith in the community is not misplaced.

AMEN!! The posting is going a little crazy. I hope we don't have to go to having to go through approvals and all that stuff, but I really think something needs to be put in writing stating which types of uploads are appropriate for this tracker and to tell people THEY MUST READ IT BEFORE UPLOADING. If it's not according to that, then the torrent should be deleted. Of course that's in addition to "cleaning house" on the tracker soon Big Smile

I just think the random jpop and kpop pv's and any anime stuff shouldn't be posted since it's D-addicts and not Whatever people feel like randomly posting no matter what it is-addicts. It's making things cluttered and confusing, and it encourages more random uploads. Of course I don't make any decisions here, so that is just my opinion. As I said before, I feel only Asian drama related stuff should be posted here because I thought that was the purpose in the first place (meaning Asian dramas, Asian movies, related OST's). Glare

the only problem with resorting to that sort of system is that it discourages sharing. why share if your post is going to be deleted by the admin, or you have to meet some sort of criteria in order to post? so instead, we can request that people use better discretion when posting their uploads, but to totally shut off a portion of the drama community causes less sharing, and a site like this needs sharing to stay afloat. so everyone please keep sharing what you have!!!!

I would say that posting torrents should be moderated (ala like suprnova) before they are shown on the site. Moderaters would have to review and approve torrents before they are accepted in the system.

On Series of the Week.

What would be cool is to have an additional table at the bottom of the page which has a display of all the episodes in the series. The idea being that it's easy to see what is being seeded at any time, so if any episode goes to zero seeds it will be seen and people can try to help. Would make the front a little more cluttered (and need some manual management) I think it would make people more likely to seed as they can see the status of the series.

I may consider it. At the moment though I very busy with work and I still haven't implemented the archiving system yet and I need to fix the first tracker to handle more load.

For now though you can simply click on the series name next the "series of the week:" on the front page and it'll show you all the eps of that series.

So you can... forget about my suggestion, it's pretty redundant as this does the job perfectly well.

Hmm...
I have been away for a little while, but now I am back and see that the Series of the Week issue has more or less been settled.

So I am a little curious about this setup:
Is the idea to literally seed an entire series for a week and then let nature take its course with the new people acting as voluntary seeders again for however long it lasts? (Did that make sense?)

Anyways, the reason I ask is because I just lokoed at the torrent page for Otousan and it seems to be working great now with at least 3-4 seeds for each episode. This is wonderful for people with fast connections because we can download everything in a matter of a couple days if we really try. But what about people with slower bandwidth speeds? Should this become more of a "Series of the Month" thing where there is a combined effort to seed a couple episodes a week instead of the whole shebang at once?

Doing something like this would be nicer for people with low bandwidth, but might also reintroduce the whole argument of dragging old torrents on forever....and.....ever....

Just thought I'd throw some additional fuel to the fire...
