Series of the Week is now in full swing. Current series of the week is "Attic Cat."

What is a series of the week?
Since there is now a substantial volume of torrents on this site, I was thinking maybe we should implement something like a "Series of the Week," where we could dedicate most of the bandwidth to during that week. I think this would help out in a couple of ways:
1. People will know what series is available and have seeds, rather than just waiting and hoping.
2. For those seeders who have DVD burners and have already burnt their collections to DVD/CD, then with the series of the week you know which series you can pull off of DVD to help seed, minimizing troublesome multiple DVD loading.
3. Constantly re-circulates older torrents back into view, and focuses bandwidth and demand toward those specific torrents, rather than having people request series across the board.
We will be taking votes as to what the next Series of the Week will be. Please only vote on completed series, and not incomplete series, movies, songs, etc. I am only listing the completed Japanese series that I personally have, I don't have any of the Korean/HK series, so someone else will have to seed that if it gets voted on.
Remember, D-Addicts was started for the community, and being a part of the community means sharing. If you don't share, then everyone loses (refer to JEM's dropping of Cdramas), and a good thing open to all may become a private party.

I'm glad someone mentioned this, because I was thinking the same thing but I just didn't get around to formulating a concise post. 
As far as what order to go in, I'm thinking it could start from the oldest, most unseeded torrents and work its way back to what was recent when the system began.
For instance, it seems like right now the hot things are uh, Awakening Story, Say Hello to Blackjack, and Shopping Hero. With a smattering of music videos and OSTs. So, if the order were to be implemented this very moment, it would start with... it looks like Invetigator Mariko is one of the older ones. Then it winds its way chronologically forwards, back to the point of Shopping Hero etc.
Of course, this depends on there being at least several people who have old, complete files in their possession to dust them off and pull them out of the archive, but it seems doable. Now doesn't seem like a bad time, what with the lull I'm seeing in larger files, with the influx of music videos and things in the "Other" category.
Maybe someone cleverer or mathematically-inclined can dream up a schedule.

This is, of course, my honest opinion....
I think this issue is sort of related to another thread, where we're discussing what to do about the older torrents and how we should support them.
Pesonally, I think this recommendation, though nice in its overall intent, is heading in the wrong direction. The entire "support for older torrents" is basically a cause/effect issue we're dealing with. The cause is that there's TOO MUCH stuff being uploaded. This is what I like to refer to as "Hit and Run" seeding, where the original uploaders upload, then run away soon after. The effect is that we're dealing with people trying to download these older uploads expecting people to keep seeding these.
My view is that we should focus much more on circulating the newer torrents, and less focus on older torrents. That's the way BitTorrent is designed - it's designed for the exchange of files that are of immediate interest. It is NOT designed for archiving. This recommendation is turning d-addicts into an archive site. That's why my vote would be to DELETE older torrents that are x days/months old. Deleting of expired torrents does two things: 1) increases performance across the two trackers at d-addicts (every connection, even if there zero k being transmitted, eats resources on the tracker), and 2) encourage the focus of people's limited bandwidth to seed the newer files. If you simply delete older or non-active torrents, you eliminate the zero-seed issue.
Let's say we do delete old torrents. If there's interest in files that were previously uploaded to d-addicts, just post a request for it, and someone will re-upload the torrent (re-upload is different from re-seed) This does three things: 1) It prevents people from having their BT clients just sit around with opened torrents waiting for someone to seed, 2) it brings the re-uploaded torrent back to the top of the torrent list, and 3) ANY uploads of torrents, new or perviously uploaded, are considered NEW. Like NBC-TV used to say about re-runs, "If you've never seen it, it's NEW to you!!!!"

Yeah, I wanted to address the issue of old torrents as well. I think the movie files, JPOP, and anything non-series related should be deleted. I don't even really have a problem with older series torrent files being removed from the tracker. That's all well and good. What I was thinking is more that older series should make a comeback every now and then, especially the better series.
Like what was discussed in the older torrents posts, Ruroshin could possibly archive the older torrent files he has now, basically removing the links from public view. Then probably have a page that lists all the archived torrents. From that list, we could pick the "Series of the Week." Ruroshin could then unhide those files (or re-upload) and the seeding can begin that week. After a week, the 'official' seeding will trickle away, but we should leave it open for another week to get any lagging finishers. After two weeks Ruroshin could re-hide (delete) those torrent files. Probably a sticky thread with a moderator that would announce the month's seeding schedule, so people could anticipate what's coming, and request other series.
Using this method we can control demand in a sense, and re-direct bandwidth. The "Series of the Week" would be the "haven't seen it? It's new to you" with a more focused and scheduled approach. This would eliminate the load on the tracker, and direct interest to newer files and the "Series of the Week."

I agree with that.. best way is to seed 4 or 5 drama series, and release 1 episode
of each every week.. and please remove the jpop links, it's making the tracker messy.
a voting-system for new series would be great.

Yes.
that's what i've been saying. remove all those music related stuff. there are several other BT sites doing those already. we really do not need those clogging up the site and running to the ground.
Let's keep this to drama/movie/variety video clips. I think the limit we might go should be just OSTs. i've been seeing way too many of those things that people can go to another BT site to post. i mean, we appreciate them seeding and stuff but.......
agree that other P2P programs are probably a better way to look for the dramas. old jem releases are also on the donkey network.
this should be done soon, cos i suspect that it will expand a little too much for the tracker to handle.

i would have to agree that the whole series of the week thing is a good idea on paper, but in practice probably not too effective. i think that we should delete older torrents after x amount of time and go with the [req upload] thing. that way, when it is uploaded, it is moved to the top of the list again. also, it isnt hogging resources from the tracker when it is old and not being used.
my thoughts on the limit to episodes released in a week. i think that an episode cap on series is a pretty good idea. when there are so many files to try and get, people are more likely to leech and run because of the resources that bit torrent uses on their machines. if there are fewer files to download, they dont need to run as quickly after downloading a file.
