This is not NOT about race... It is merely about the color and tone of one's skin no matter what race they are.

The reason I ask is that my best friend is dating someone (He is Indian and she is mixed, Hispanic, Black and White but she looks VERY interracial) and he told her that if she was darker than her skin tone that he never would have dated her!

I honestly can not understand choosing one skin tone over another personally. scratch

Does skin color (no matter what race the person is) effect your decision to date them or not???

This is an interesting question. Indian guy? Well Indians are very racist...(Caste System) Even today I bet alot of traditional Indian parents would be totally against their chidren dating someone black.

I don't care about Skin Colour for me its beauty and personality....She has to make me feel good

I actually pay more attention to facial features, figures an stuff rather than skin colour, some might look hot tanned and vice versa.
though, if I have to choose I'd pick brighter tone.

Unfortunately in Asia there is a very heavy stigma against darker skin and a strong preference for paler skin. Having pale, almost transparent skin is one of the hallmarks of beauty.

Personally, I don't really care (although extremes on either end tend to put me off - both extremely pale and extremely dark-skinned people seem somehow less attractive than people whose skin tone is somewhere inbetween both extremes) and I don't think I would ever refuse someone solely because of the the colour of their skin.

If I will be in a relationship with a girl, I will know her very well first. Then I will be with her because of her personality and, mainly, because of our mutual feelings.

But when Im walking on the streets, we must be sincere and if a woman that we consider hot walk in front of us, we will watch her. Or not? In this situation, I consider hotter the girls with dark skin. But it really turns me of a white or pale skin or an extremely black skin (not brown, they are hot!! ^^u). I like asian type of eyes.

Everyone has their own preference and its their choice ultimately, personally I don't think the colour of a persons skin alone makes them attractive but their total package and personality.

Off Topic - Sahansah how's it going mate, it's been a long time! Smile

It really shouldn't matter. People can't choose color of their skins.

Honestly, I don't care. I've dated all sorts of people because to me it's more important what they've got inside than the color of their skin.

Though I've been raised by parents that don't care about where my boyfriend's are from, as long as I'm happy. Haha, I think they actually prefer when I date foreign guys more than Swedish guys. I think it would be hard to date people from other cultures if my parents strongly opposed since to me, family is important.

I think it's less of a "Skin Color" thing to me. I look at a person and I decide whether I think they are attractive to me or not. If they have dark skin and I think they are attractive...then there you go. The same if they are pale...but I'm extremely pale-skinned so just about everyone I know is darker than me. Though it sounds like to me that whoever said that was looking from the outside at his relationship aka "What do other people see?" which is very narrow-minded. I could be wrong but that's my opinion.

I don't care, if I love him - the most important things are inside, nee? ^^
(But if I can choose, I prefer the pale white skin ^^)

I think it's really tough to separate race and skin tone because they're so closely related (as opposed to race and nationality).

Anywho I agree with Néa on both sentiments. Unfortunately in East Asia, and a majority of the world who's been influenced by Western culture, there's a preference for paler skin... particularly among females.

Also, I've gone for those all over the spectrum, aside from those who are "extreme". But I'd like to think I would never count someone out just because of their skin tone alone.

Sure does! The guy I date better be darker than me (but not too dark), cuz ya know, I'm already pretty dark, so I don't want him lookin better than me. Then again, if he was a really cute persistent lighter skinned guy, then... well, we'll have to see. But I mean, in terms of first impressions, yes, I'd say it matters.

It's easy to say no it doesn't matter, but that's probably cuz they haven't actually met someone on the extreme side of the spectrum. As much of an egalitarian, cultured, or informed person as I thought I was, when I came face to face with the "issue", I didn't step up. And maybe growing up in Asia half my life may have something to do with that, but still.. the idea of the right skin color is ingrained in me, and it was and is still hard for me to go against it. But I'm hoping I can look past it in the near future.

I have to agree that features (eyes, hair, nose, hips, lips and fingertips, etc.) rate higher than skin color. Sugar comes in different colors, but it all tastes sweet.

The only thing I don't like is when girls significantly alter their skin color. A girl that looks like Alek Wek wearing a white bikini but is actually naked is just plain weird. Tanning doesn't do great things to the skin anyway.
