choices of phones:
1. LG chocolate - free
2. LG Venus - $199
3. LG envY - $80 (heard there was evnY 2)
4. LG voyager - $300.

Some things to consider:
a. i am verizon subscriber and 2 year sub is almost up.
b. money is not the problem. my bro is paying
c. i need to be able to customize my own ringtones. a MUST.
d. ability to act as a music player and listen with headphones is a big plus.
e. good call quality
f. good battery life.
g. good camera.

can envy or voyager use AIM?
jus wondering.

thats all i really want, dont need extra features, good if it comes but not needed.
help/input is greatly appreciated.

First post! Big Smile
I actually have the Venus, and my siblings have the enV and the Voyager. I've gotten a chance to play around with their phones and I think each one is good in their own way. The enV is more useful for texting, the Venus is more for simple use and music, and the Voyager offers everything, but I would say its more useful if you plan on using the internet. I can't say i know much about the chocolate.

I've been happy with the Venus for the past couple of months. I just worry about scratching the screen. The touch pad takes some getting use to. The music player has a nicer interface than the enV and Voyager. In order for you to listen with headphones you're going to need to buy the music package separately from Verizon to get headphones that fit or get a 2.5mm to 3.5mm adapter so that you can use your own headphones. For ringtones, the only way I know how to make your own with any verizon phone is through BitPim. All the phones have good call quality and battery life.

If you plan on texting or using the internet, stick with either the enV or the Voyager. When I text and browse on my Venus I really miss having a full keyboard, but its simple and stylish. If your brother doesn't mind paying the money, go with the Voyager since it offers the most features.

Just a note about making your own ringtones... I've used bitpim before and it's good software but problems arise when your phone isn't supported yet by the software. This is almost always the case when the phones are relatively new. I took a look on BitPim's website for supported phones and I didnt see any of the phones you mentioned possibly getting. http://www.bitpim.org/help/phones-featuressupported.htm Since LG is pretty popular I'd say BitPim will eventually support any of those phones listed but it's just a matter of how long. However being a Verizon user, I'm not sure how much else of a choice you will have other than just waiting. I just wanted to mention this because I got Samsung phone from Verizon almost a year ago and was all psyched to use BitPim to put stuff on it but it turned out I wasnt able to at that time. Anywho, I got over it Laugh

Although it won't list the phone name, other models listed in BitPim will still support these LG phones. For example, I know the Venus isn't listed in the BitPim support page, but the LG VX8550 and the LG VX 8800 settings both work for bitpim. Bitpim also worked for my brothers enV. If you're having trouble finding support for the phone, the mobile phone forums will definitely have additional info.

Ah, I wasn't aware of that. These LG phones seem pretty backwards compatible. My phone however wasn't an LG and I did some searching as far as transferring data to my phone and didn't come up with anything. So I said heck with it and forgot about it Alcoholic
Thanks for bringing that up though. It all looks promising now thumleft
