i think if the choice for Zettai Kareshi got down to jdrama fans between a pro sars fansub and a newly formed group i think no doubt most people would go with the sars fansub version ...
but as furransu said .. i think you should do a joint project to get started and get in touch with other groups to get their opinion on such presumed partnership .. or if you're really determined to do a solo project you can go to the fansub wiki >> jdrama section and check out what project you can take on .. maybe you can do one of the projects that haven't been picked or maybe you could choose to continue a project that was dropped
go to the following link and search through all the drama's

Wow! I'm so glad to hear this because there just aren't enough fansubbing groups out there already...
Why isn't anyone picking up the shows that haven't been subbed yet? If you check the map there's plenty of drama territory to piss on if you are serious about subbing.

@ ironicwave Don't get me wrong dear. I would love to see more groups out there subbing. I think Randomsubs is a new group that is really doing well and getting things done. It would be great to have so many that everyone jumps on a show just to have on and groups compete to see who can produce the best subs. *cue dramatic gladiator-type music* Rivalry is the lifeblood of quality.
Seriously though this is a heck of a list:
| Quote: | TRANSLATORS Japanese
EDITORS
ENCODERS (I CAN ALSO ENCODE IF NEEDED)
RAW PROVIDERS (I CAN DO THAT TO IF NEEDED)
UPLOADERS
AND IN THE NEAR FUTURE FORUM MODS AND SITE NEWS UPDATER'S |
I think if you have a few people together that's fine, but there are enough groups recruiting that someone who can time or encode could get work with them. As you said a stint with a group would do them good.
And I second the point about quality. No doubt it would be beneficial to have a good set of soft-subs out there for people who've already downloaded the file.
@Getsugatnsho: Heck if you can time, SARS has a recruiting thread for that and you just might end up working on Zettai Kareshi for them, though I imagine they have someone for that by now. Check it out: http://www.sars-fansubs.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=807 They sell mugs and T-shirts. It doesn't get much more established than that.

You should've warned me before I read that statement while sipping on a can of Coke. You WERE kidding, right? Over 100 fansubbing groups registered on the Fansub Wiki and there STILL aren't enough?

I'll tell you why:
Mito Komon - too many old people. Too many people wearing kimono. And the men look like sumo wrestlers, again wearing kimono. And no idols.
Aibo 6 - too many old people. No idols.
Keishicho Sosa Ikka 9 Gakari - Watase Tsunehiko stars in it. Old. No idols.
Shukan Maki Yoko - FINALLY something starring someone younger than 30. But it wasn't a manga or anime in its earlier day.
Shichinin no Onna Bengoshi - It is about lawyers. Lawyers are not funny.
Wataru Seken wa Oni Bakari - OLD PEOPLE TO THE MAX!!!!!! Aaaaaah, but there is actually ONE JOHNNY in this, but he just spends all his time in the back at Okakura watching Daikichi stirring something in a bowl, while Nagako continues to whine about her mother-in-law. And those looooooong monologues.... 52 episodes of it!
Don't take my comments seriously. HOWEVER, they do actually depict the thought process of most fansubbers. And in more ways than one, the thoughts I joked about actually do break a show's possibility of being a project. As I've said in many other topics here, the fansubbers have total control of what the non-nihongo speaking leechers watch. And it is too bad. But, the young people are the ones who have the time to fansub, while us old farts need to tend to other things like children, 60 hours/week of work, etc.

@ groink *giggles* Glad I could help you clear your sinuses. A long time ago my sarcasm got cranked up to high and someone ripped off the knob. So far I've managed to not to get banned while berating new fansubbing groups and stalkers, I mean online 'friends'. I'm sure at some point I'll do something to warrant a reprimand.

Well, I thought Bengoshi no Kuzu was rather funny and Hero wasn't bad either, but generally speaking, yes, TV lawyers aren't much fun.
I'm sure that sex appeal plays a role in a show being chosen for subbing. Old people aren't considered sexy, yet the Rolling Stones still manage to go on tour wearing the same style clothes they wore 40 years ago. Bit of a mystery. Seeing as your nick starts with the word groin, I'm sure I didn't have to go to the trouble to spell all that out though. What this does mean is that there are a lot of material out there for the right group. If someone were to start a group called, say Geriatric Fart Subs, they would have the potential to rival any group out there. 芽むしり仔撃ち might be a good alternative metaphorically.
@ ironicwave I guess I'm just not the cheerleader type.

I'm pretty sure that you aren't supposed to shake babies, but the doctor always gives them a good smack on the ass to make sure they are breathing. Shots are painful and medicine is bitter. Eventually some cute little nurse (or someone with an equivalent avatar) will come along and give them a lollypop.
Much (tough) love,
