I downloaded this .srt file and I want to edit it b/c there's no capitalization or periods and such and I find it kinda.. annoying =/
Is there a way to capitalize the first letter in every sentence in just one click or something or do I have to do it one by one which will take a while b/c there's no capitalization anywhere except for "I"
Same with names.. anyway to change the names so it'll be capitalize without having to go through line by line to edit it?

I might have a solution for you. If you have Microsoft Word, open up the file in that. Select the whole document (ctrl+a), go to Format menu -> Change Case. Click on sentence case and that should capitalize first letter of first word in each sentence. After you've capitalized everything, copy it, close out of Word without saving, paste it back into the .srt file and save it. As for names, that's a different deal. While in Notepad viewing the sub file, you use the Replace tool to replace all instances of "insert name" to "Insert Name". Hopefully that will do what you wanted.

It might be somewhat different if you have 2007 since I used 2003, but probably similar. thumleft

If you have Subtitle Workshop program, you can load the subtitle (.srt) file in the program. Then click "Edit" menu, "Texts", "Convert case." At the Convert Case window, check "Sentence Type" and "Only first letter of first word" and check "All Subtitles". Click "OK" and the program will auto-convert the first letter of each line to upper case.

*sigh* If only this could be done to all those horribly capitalized hardsubs Laugh

Thanks for the tip though. I have a ton of old movies with horrible softsubs laying about. Smile

I think jewelchan's method would be a bit more straightforward than my mine if you have that subtitling program. I don't have any of that software so I was being resourceful and probably doing things the long way in the process Laugh

Thanks! I used Subtitle Workshop and it worked ^^ except the person who made the sub is a bit uhm.. weird? After I did all that, the I turned into L b/c apprentally that person uses lowercase l as I and I thought it was the letter I.
So is there anyway to change the L back into I now? And some reason the commas in the file are apostrophes -___-"
And then Y's don't go with the words.. it's like "y ou" and "y ou're"

I'm gonna see if the copy and paste on to Microsoft Word will help.

the person probably just ripped the subs off of a vob, since if you look at the dvd subtitles, there really is no difference between an "I" and an "l"... lol, could you see the difference in what I just typed?

Yeah, it's a DVD rip sub =P we can't tell between the I and l b/c it's sans-serif so you can't tell the difference. If it was serif then you can see the little tick marks and stuff ^^
I'm just using sans-serif font so I don't have to change all the I back to I only the ones that starts with L that I have to change back.
It's taking really long so I might just leave it without all the capitalizations =__=

Um, actually, there are programs that can recognize 90% of the I and I differentiations by context. SubRip had this, I remember, and you could just give it the subs and ask it to replace "I"s by "l"s correctly.

So I should download the program called SubRip and have it replace and such? Or is this for the original ripper when they ripped it?

just do a Find and Replace in your text editor

you have sentences like "L am not a guy!", right? so
you could do Find "L " (<-- L + space ) and Replace with "I "
easy Big Smile

LOL, I can't believe I didn't see the find and replace thing before ^___^;; so now I just do ctrl + r and I just pretty much go through it really fast =) thank gosh they capitalized the stuff starting from episode 14 so less work for me.
Thanks for the tip.
