I'm afraid that's easier said than done. Your best bet would be to find an OST or Album of whatever you're listening to and pray for an instrumental version. There is software that "tries to" seperate the song from the vocals but I've never had any luck with them myself.

You could wait another 30 years - when PCs can talk. Or you might give a try to a Karaoke-thingy...

@Illanair: Same here. I followed the Audacity tutorial for 'karaoke' versions of songs, but alas the way most of them have been mixed, it also leaves out alot of other things as well.

To put it simply, I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you. Now I am no sound technician but as far as I know seperating seamlessly vocals from instruments is an impossible feat, since the two "tracks" have been patched together. It would be like trying to remove logos from a Fansub to use D-addicts lingo. I'm sure there are professionals who can work wonders with the songs but with the average song being so horribly stripped down (128kbit and such) it would probably be more sensible to ask the original author to make a non vocal version Glare

So in other words - Thank god for karaoke releases ^^

Have you tried Sound Forge? A friend of mine managed to remove vocals using that program (SONY), though there were some faint vocals left. This was two years ago. For all I know, this can only be done using original CDs.
