Don't know if it will work but could you use a programme like PackageFactory for U3 1.0 to convert the applcation to run on your flash drive?
I've never heard of Aegisub and only just started to use subtitle workshop 2.51.

Thanks freezspirit, but I guess that you've posted just when I was editing my post.

| thanks zeldAIS, if I can get a hold on the .rar files, I'll give it a try. But I'll definitely keep the idea in mind just in case I come across another workstation that proposes them. _________________ Mukkyaaa !!!

I don't completely understand the logic of this topic...
I would assume that the purpose of pursuing the use of U3 drives is to bypass desktop security and run your unapproved applications. Most workplaces I've seen lock their PCs down so that users cannot install software. And on systems that I've designed and implemented, you can't even run setup.exe, autorun, or other non-approved EXE filenames. Reading the U3 specifications, it seems that you must still install the U3 software onto the PC before running the launchpad, which requires admin or power user privileges which most users don't have on work PCs. It also requires uninstalling the U3 software from the host PC. And, when you disconnect the thumb drive, it may leave traces of the launchpad software on the PC, allowing tech support to detect the use of the software (and possibly discipline the user.)
Before pursuing this direction of deviating tech support and the limitations of your work PC, I'd do more reading.

Sorry groink, but I just don't completely understand the logic of your answer...
But ok, I'll put it simply:
logic of this topic: to carry both my work and my application with me.
Bypassing computer securities? Didn't even cross my mind. But professionals do use these computers (and let me insist on the plural form, as there is more than one in my workplace) for more important work that I can do on them, without having people like me polluting the hard drives that they generously lend me with unnecessary things.
edit: Groink, I appreciate your generous offer in trying to help me hacking the network at work, but don't force yourself, or at least if you do, do it for somebody else. Really, I just need to know of an application that will install on my usb device, and nothing else. _________________ Mukkyaaa !!!

Dude, you got it all wrong. I'm not lecturing and I'm not saying you're purposely deceiving security at your workplace. With my expertise and experience in application virtualization, I figure you would value my advice to you in trying to get a piece of software to work on a PC that doesn't even allow you to install the app. *shrug*
To put it another way... U3 is a kludgy technology! It really doesn't work a damn! It is proprietary. Software run from the launchpad is unstable. Many applications that require more than just regular user permissions don't work. And, as I said earlier, it installs software needed for the launchpad onto the host OS, and doesn't completely uninstall. A better technology to do what you want to do is to use Thinstall virtualization technology. Thinstall is truly portable. It contains all the DLLs, registry entries, INIs, and everything else it needs in one executable. It allows you to run legacy applications - even on Vista if the application doesn't actually run on Vista. It is easy to virtualize any application regardless of its complexity (I successfully virtualized the entire Office 2007 Pro suite and have it run off my thumb drive.) It does not require a proprietary thumb drive as it works with ANY thumb drive or other writable storage. It is seamless to the host OS. It isn't a kludged solution. And, it leaves absolutely no scars behind.

Thanks a lot for the piece of advice, Groink, and I'll keep this in mind. But the fact is that having already acquired this device, it would have been nice and helpful to know of any station that could have run on it, without having me to bring a laptop or buy a pda. The lighter the better.
Anyway I'll I have a look at Thinstall and see if this solution can work. _________________ Mukkyaaa !!!
