| Well... I neither love it or hate it... I thought it was ok... because of all the extreme drama and sob stories that were going round and round in circles it made it rather boring and some what frustrating... it does have it's moments but I think the best thing about Piano was that the actors did well to portray all the feelings and emotions...

So far, even though I haven't finished the series yet, this definately seems to be a drama geared for grown ups. While it does make use of some fairly common K-drama plot devices, it is far cry from your typical K-drama set up in that each character has depth. Lately, character depth seems to be something in K-dramas that is treated rather lightly, if at all. With the exception of a couple of dramas, most seem satisfied with having characters that seem one dimensional. Piano is one of the exceptions. In fact, Piano is rare for a K-drama in that its focus is on characters rather than on a simple Cinderella-ish, fairy tale story arc. While it isn't nearly as flawless on this count as ROYOW, it still is done pretty damn well.
For the record, Piano is very tragic. As I've said before, story wise there are many common plot devices. There are many aspects of the story that'll seem familiar to other dramas. This could easily have been a run of the mill drama. But that it isn't should be a testament to the superb level of acting displayed. In fact, this drama isn't concerned about the story, as much as it is concerned about the progression of the characters. It's a subtle progression to be sure, but I feel it is purposeful.
So far, I give it a rating of 8.5 stars out of ten, within the range of what I deem life-altering. If they don't screw up the ending, I think this will be one of the top dramas I'll ever have seen.
