OMG,
MP4 files again!
Hopefully I wont have trouble converting them to AVI. (Cannot play MP4 on Divx DVD stand alone player)
(Had trouble w/ Lao Zhai MP4 from RobX when converting to AVI. The sound got all screwy!)
Thanks.

264 gives best video / audio quality, and is coming around to standard video slowly. You guys should think about an HTPC or just watch it on the PC like I do. I once always wanted to convert to avi and watch on DVD player all the time too, but truthfully, that's just too bothersome.
Trade off for those of you who might otherwise think:
Avi:
Larger file size for better quality.
Takes longer to upload / download.
More compatible with standard players such as DVD standalone.
Takes more HDD space
Mp4:
Smaller file size with optimal quality.
Faster to upload / download
I use QTime standard 264 setting, so should be playable with most things that can play QTime files.
Saves more HDD Space.
those are just some of the basics that come to top of my head, im sure there are lots more trade offs, but as an encoder with not too much space, the smaller the file size, the better it is for me to work. There will always be different opinions and preferences among the many viewers.
Very sorry to hear for those of you who rather would have avi playable versions; can't please everyone out there._________________ -- Robx --

I hope JiangHu will reconsider and release only AVI.
I, for one, can't really tell the Quality difference between AVI and MP4.
And AVI files are compatible across all Platforms.
Plus, I prefer to watch them on regular TV rather on my puny computer screens. Watching a 10-15min. video clip is one thing, but the whole series on the computer? Yikes.
Thanks.

First, thanks to Jiang Hu subbers for doing a great job. I've been looking forward to watching this series. It looks like it's going to be really good.
As for the AVI vs MP4 discussion, either is fine for me. My DVD player is so old that it doesn't play AVI files either unless the disc is formatted as a DVD disc instead of a data disc. Consequently I hook my laptop up to my TV and play the files from my laptop. For the same quality, the MP4 files are smaller, so the MP4 format certainly saves HD space and makes it a little more preferred.

Be careful what you read. While it certainly may handle 264, it doesn't mention anything about mp4. So with this, one might well have to demux from mp4, and remux into mkv, or something other than mp4 to get it to work._________________ -- Robx --
