Hello!

I just started this third installment of TVB's fireman-based series. The first series was the best and had characters that really drew me in as well as a good climax in the plot. The second series was not a standout for me.

And now we're at the third so what do you think?

My thoughts so far (I'm on episode 20):
I'm not sure if I'm loving it. I do like having Wong Hei and Kevin Cheng as leads. They fit the build for fire fighters. However, I think that Wong Hei's character is so stubborn-minded that it makes it hard for me to sympathize with his dilemmas. Kevin Cheng is really too good to be true. He's one of those characters that has a non-flaw. What I mean by that is that his flaw is that he cares too much for people. But essentially, that's not a real flaw and it makes his character too predictable. Myolie Wu---I was never a big fan of hers but she's okay. Her character is... too nice and hardworking to be super likeable.

Bosco (who I just adore) is the rookie firefighter for this installment. He's paired up with newcomer Aimee Chan. Bosco is good in his role, but I feel like I've seen him in a role like this before... maybe not exactly, but it definitely didn't feel like a breakthrough for him. His girlfriend in this series, Aimee Chan, is a newcomer and it shows. I think she is likeable and has a smile that truly shines; however, as an actress, she is inexperienced and has the tendency to overact. I like the look of her as a tomboy and she definitely makes an effort. She still needs to learn the very subtle things that differentiate the veterans from the beginners. I hope she does get more opportunities to grow on screen though.

Yukino,

how about letting us know a little bit more of your thoughts on this drama.

Like you, I love the 1st instalment, was dissappointed in the second and have heard not so good reviews from people watching the current show. I'm actually in two minds whether I want to spend that many hours on something that might be sub-par.

By the way, I love Wong Hei but cannot stand Kevin Cheng. He is such a piece of wood with no charisma and I honestly don't know how they awarded him the best actor award sometime back. Bosco can be good but unfortunately his acting skills so far has not been tested in a truly challenging role.

Myolie Wu is not a great actress but I like her because she is willing to take risks and is always up to the challenge of a difficult role. As for newbies, I really cannot stand them especially those who come from the Miss Hongkong pageant. What makes them think that just because they are beauty queens they can act?
