So, um, if you haven't noticed there isn't a Hello Kitty drama, so I would object to this on grounds of relevance, but what the heck:
1. Same age as you in theory, but you started a Hello Kitty thread, I would say we are definitely talking biological age here.
2. It's complicated.
3. It was highly traumatic which is why I believe I don't remember most of the first three years of my life. *sheds a bitter tear*
4. Define merchandise. I suppose I spend a lot for the company to purchase rights to use it.
5. Less isn't a kind, but that's my answer. I guess Hello Kitty© Vodka would be really neat-o.
6. See #3
7. Since it's plastered on everything imaginable it's sometimes hard to avoid it, but probably most commonly at Sunkus or 7-11, maybe Family Mart.

Well, this is for Japanese Culture & Entertainment so I figured Hello Kitty was a part of Japanese Culture is it not? There are other threads on here that have nothing to do with Japanese dramas, but I CAN move it to the General Discussion forum if this is not allowed.
THANKS FOR ANSWERING OUR QUESTIONS.

1. How old are you? 40
2. What country to you come from? USA
3. How did you first hear about Hello Kitty? Not really sure - it's been nearly 30 years at least since I first heard of her.
4. How much do you spend on Hello Kitty merchandise each year? Under $200
5. What kind of Hello Kitty merchandise do you like/want the most? I have the two Hello Kitty! Barbie dolls, in mint condition. Also have the Rubik's Cube, bookmark and even a vibrator (no, not that.) I even once had a Hello Kitty MasterCard credit card, which I qualified for through a Sakai Noriko promotional offer.
6. What do you like/not like about Hello Kitty? I like the simplicity of the character. No mouth actually speaks volumes.
7. Where do you purchase Hello Kitty merchandise? Sanrio stores in Hawaii, and on eBay.

I think I misread the question. I thought it was asking u what item u wanted to get. And there actually is a hello kitty sandwich maker =P

Well that kind does exists. I've always wondered if they were licensed what the return would be on that...
| GroinK wrote: | | I like the simplicity of the character. |
That helps with the design on, um... that product. Spongebob probably not as adaptable to that application.

I'm desperately hoping you've got some kids to go with them.
PS Since I'm being such a bad girl, I guess I'll have to give back a little. Kitty bashing doesn't earn many friends... If you ever get to Tokyo you can visit this creepy place and have your picture taken with Kitty. Personally I would rather shoot myself than go back, but the rest of you'd probably love it. _________________ BadasSubs, For the Hello of it™

The interesting thing about Hello Kitty is that, unlike any other Japanese character, Sanrio does not charge a licensing fee. They don't even require you to write to Sanrio and ask to use Hello Kitty on a product. That's one of the reasons this cat made a huge explosion on the Asian scene - just give it away!!!!
The only things Sanrio does not allow Hello Kitty to be placed on are:
- Weapons (that AK47 assault rifle most of you have seen is not endorsed by Sanrio)
- Pornography and other sex-related products (the vibrator I own is actually used to massage sore muscles - purchased from J-List)
- Drugs, smoking utensils, cigarettes and other smoking products
As for the Barbie dolls, I collect Hello Kitty, and these dolls are just a part of the collection.

@groink I wasn't doubting you on the vibrator, but I'm not sure how they would stop you from making a Hello Kitty AK-47.
The irony in Hello Kitty! is that, besides the maneki neki, it's probably the only cat that Japanese don't hate. Most think cats are ugly, dirty, noisy animals. Maybe Kitty was an effort to change the popular opinion of cats, but I think in the end by juxtaposing the cartoon to the real thing you make things worse.
Of course it's hard to for people to want to keep an animal in the house that will shred your tatami and mark them on top of that. _________________ BadasSubs, For the Hello of it™
