Emm...help me please with (.ass)!

Ehm..I'm a newbie here and i want to ask all to minna-san (maybe not an interesting question but useful):
I have a subtitlewith format .ass(Advanced SS),and i also have a video.
I want to join them(you know,i mean make it hardsubbed or embed it,i actually was confused how to talk to minna).What are the program i must have to make it (hardsubbed/embed)?How?Please explain to me!
[i can make it hardsubbed if the subtitle format is (.ssa).But i can't because it is (.ass).So,please help me.]

Virtualdub with Textsub filter.

Download Vobsub, and load the .vdf (I think it's vdf) as a filter.

If you can do it with SSA, you could try a cheat: just alter the suffix from -.ass to -.ssa and give it a try.
But no guarantee!

I have but it's for filtering subtitle format (.sub) and (.idx).
Not for .ass.(I have opened it with filter menu in Virtual Dub).

you can use a program call avi recomp i think it takes ass format.

Since someone is asking about hardsubbing then I'll just ask this quick question. What is the difference between VirtualDub and VirtualDubMod?
In some cases I see people talking about hardsubbing with either one, so is there really a difference?
