Hi there minnai! I'm establishing a new group and we're looking for 1-2 Japanese/ English Translator to join our community. Our projects will revolve around animes, and maybe sentai series as well. Below is what we are looking for:

Translator: This individual will be fully responsible for translating (obviously), and maybe proof-reading if necassary. We prefer this person to be proficient with the language (Japanese/English), is at least level 2-3 TOEFL, and has some expereince in this field before. We will also consider this person being a Team or Project Leader where he will forsee most of the operations if possible. Also long term-commitement will be needed here as well

This may not be much of an incentive, but I do plan to provide minimum wages to the people who work in the group. Don't expect TOO much, but it will be something that is out of my own pocket. So if you have what it takes and is up for the challenge, please contact me at - Email removed

First of all, this is a drama site. So we don't have much support for anime groups. Although I suppose sentai series might be acceptable as drama.

But you're PAYING? There are so many different things wrong with that. First of all, fan-anything, by definition, is a hobby, and unpaid.

Secondly, we are already skirting the law by translating copyright transcript. (Hardsubbers even more so by distributing video.) However, one of our defenses is that we make no money off of doing what we do. And you, by offering to pay someone to do criminal things, just makes the legal issue so many times worse.

Thirdly, if people were to get paid, minimum wage (minimum wage WHERE, anyways?) would insult them. Somebody who really has the skills to do fast, efficient, and correct translations is worth much more than minimum wage (and often has a job already and does not want fansub to pay them). Somebody who can only make minimum wage probably isn't that skilled, and probably needs a spot translator to check over their translations anyways.

Basically, if you want a translator, go for it. But money makes everything sticky. So just don't.

I said I do 'plan' to pay, but this may not be the case. What's your problem? I don't find this surprising, as other groups out there (as far as I know of) do pay some of their staff. I never said I am going to pay, so you need to clam down. This is just a little incentive for the staff I consider offering to them, and if you consider this unethical, then let it be and I can skip that part for the sake of that aspect. So don't go jumping all over me here, I'm just looking for translators. Sheesh...

Zankantou, it's possible other groups pay some of their staff. However, most of the donations to fangroups go towards acquiring the DVDs for the raws and server setup. Perhaps they let certain staff keep the DVDs as incentive. Even if they do pay their staff, they will not post it so ostensibly as you have done because not only is it unethical, it is also jeopardizes the entire community. D-a is already under quite a bit of scrutiny (though that might not be immediately apparent), and some companies would like to find any excuse and shut the site down. So, no, this is not just your problem. You have made it the community's problem by posting here.

On the other hand, if you are looking for a translator, then post that. If the shows are interesting, somebody will volunteer, even without the "incentive." And if it's not that interesting, why are you asking to get it subbed at all?

Actually it's pretty much ALL fansubbers on DA that find profiting from FANsubbing unethical and shady. I don't know how anime fansubbing works but that's not how dramas or this community works.

So honestly, anyone who would take you up on the offer. Please take them. Because I know no respectable team here who would want them. In fact I know that YOUR kind gets kicked out of drama fansub teams.

"I plan to pay." The mere mention of that is wrong. Simply, D-Addicts does not support or endorse the idea of translating in exchange for compensation of ANY KIND regarding fansubs. I see crap like this all the time from the anime fansubbers. They think they invented fansubbing. And when they want to enter live dramas, they think the rules they made up regarding fansubbing work the same. Well, you are totally wrong in that regard. Translators do it for the love of translating and not for any form of compensation. If you do not understand this simple concept, you'd best leave D-Addicts and conduct your business someplace else like AnimeSuki.
