I've been looking for a way to archive stuff and blu-ray seems like a good choice given 25GB+ capacities. I'd like to have something which is a playable disk with menus, subtitles etc. (not a data disc) and ideally playable on a PS3. I was wondering if anyone had any experience of authoring blu-ray disks, if so I'd be interested in what hardware and software they've used plus any suggestions/recommendations etc. Thanks.

The only issue I have with this idea is that you're basically "putting all your eggs into one basket." If you're extremely careful with your discs, then maybe storing your dramas on a 25GB disc isn't a bad idea. But for most of us who don't, putting just a scratch on one of these discs and bye-bye 25GB of data.

This isn't the info you asked for. But it is logical to think about since you're pursuing this direction.

Durability is certainly something to think about, there is some mention of Hard-Coating here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blu-ray_Disc - I'm not sure how this compares to DVD durability.

To some extent 'eggs in one basket' is also true, but I guess it depends on how important the stuff is to you. Do you need off-site storage for the case your house burns down? etc. etc.. For me it wouldn't be the end of the world if I lost some dramas, but I'd like to keep them around if possible in a convenient (in terms of cost, access, storage space etc.) format - blu-ray seems like a good choice at the moment.
