does HJsplit have to have some sort of.. i dont know, program or something to work with? cuz everytime i download parts and joined with HJsplit, the program is only half. like after i dl-ed videos, i can only watched halfway and it cuts off.. then there's error or something? its weird.

the size for the whole file after joining is the size of the .001 file right?

No it's the size of all the parts added up. If the whole thing doesn't play then a part is missing.

this is the weird thing. what am i doing wrong cuz there's two parts to the vid i want to download. and by using a download manager i managed to download it 100% in 1 minute. both are about 40mb or less. and i use HJ split. when there's .001 and .002 in the same folder the .002 file should automatically be input right? it did. but it came out half done? i download the latest version of HJsplit and its still the same?

Unless your connection is pretty good, that seems pretty fast to download two files around 80mb altogether... I'd say make sure your downloads aren't corrupted when they are finished. Check to see if their file sizes are the size it says they should be on the website. HJSplit would recognize that .002 was there, but if the full file isn't there, you're not going to get the full video.

hi

i successfully split a file into 001 and 002. 001 was OK and i could play it with BS player but it looks like 002 can't. However, i can play it with VLC with no sound. when i tried to join the now-split-file together again with hjsplit, I can watch it till the end OK. Then i split that file again and it still doesn't work. does anyone know why?

thanks in advance

Your understanding of what HJSplit does is totally incorrect, which is why you're experiencing problems playing 002 files.

HJSplit splits a large file into smaller files solely for the purpose for delivering using systems that have a maximum file size setting, such as RapidShare, megapixel, etc. You MUST merge all the pieces back together, again using HJSplit, in order to play the file properly. The reason why 001 plays fine is that the beginning of virtually any video contains the necessary header information to play the file. Files 002 and after does not contain that information, therefore you cannot play those files.

Some video players like VLC has some technology that will attempt to repair videos as it plays them, which is why you can see video in the 002 file. But the purpose of that technology is to play a corrupt video file, and NOT to play a file that's been split with HJSplit.

If you want to TRULY split a video file into multiple PLAYABLE files, you must use other tools, such as VirtualDub. Those tools will copy the header information into each video file - making them playable.
