I've been trying to use the x264 codec to be able to encode PV (music videos) in karaoke but it seems to always lag. At first I thought you can't encode karaoke PVs using x264 but I noticed that you can from a fellow subber. I've asked but she's customized her settings a long time ago and doesn't remember what she did >.<

So I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on what I can do to make it work? I can encode just regular clips, without karaoke fine. pinch

argh, i don't even know if this is the right place to post this T_T

The karaoke hardsub into the video file or softsub embed in a mkv/mp4 container? Well on either types did you make sure your karaoke/subtitles are in the correct frame rate as the video. If the video is 30fps and karaoke is 25fps or the other way around, they will get out of sync.

Hmmm I totally understand that but I don't know how to change/check the FPS of the subs? It's not the same as checking for the videos >.< I use Aegisubs, and can't find anything -_-"[

edit/// oh i got how to find the fps and yeah it matches so...i dont think thats it >.<

you should try to process the audio using a 3rd party application, instead of VirtualDub to do it, because sometimes the audio goes out of sync when encoding audio+video at the same time.

go to Streams -> Stream List -> Save Wav. once you convert your audio (to mp3), you can click Add to put it back in (don't forget to disable the original audio). i recommend GoldWave as a free audio conversion app.

p.s. i hope you're using VirtualDubMod instead. also, are you doing single bitrate or multipass ?

ooo bullfighting yay! hahaha.. oh yeah, ummm

you're using a different x264 VFW (video for windows) interface. this particular x264 VFW doesn't allow modulo 16 != 0 for its resolutions (im hoping its just a stupid setting)
easier explanation: this x264 doesnt allow you to encode at the optimal "divide by 16" (or %16) resolution - 480x360 doesn't fit that -
ex: 480/16 = 30 (no problem)
ex: 360/16 = 22.5 (or 22 remainder 8 -- bad)

for virtualdubmod, i use http://deaththesheep.uni.cc/ - x264vfw installer (standard) for encoding, that might work better for you (unless you can find the option to turn off %16)

<-- just plain ol' encoder

<- Just a guy who recodes / encodes for fun.

Last time I checked, X264 wasn't restrictive. I guess it's either old version, or is really old, or you messed up the setting.

I should read the settings tab on mine and tell you guys ideal settings later. Smile

EDIT: Actually, Akuma, why don't you do it, too? Tongue

all those settings in the settings tabs confuses me Sad i usually just do a 2-pass on a target bitrate and go from there Tongue

Darn it. >_>; Hummm... To be truthful, X264 is experiment codec, so I use it as one too. pinch (I don't do definite recodes with it...)
