I'm really looking forward to this one. Looks like a good cast, and the premise seems unique to say the least.
Tamaki Hiroshi is one of my favorite actors. So funny and easy on the eyes too.

So much of Tamaki this month! I hope a lot of people will watch this, if only for the "unique" plot - I must say, I'm intrigued - I don't know what to think about it, really
But Tamaki as a good for nothing - WIN! Such a change after Chiaki-sempai

I watched this just now and I just didn't get it. The deers and all is cute but the drama is slow... both actors are good but the plot didn't hold for me. Maybe I'll try 1 more episode before deciding whether to drop it.

i agree with the previous two posts. the story is kinda slow. there is nothing that strikes out from what was supposed to be a 'unique' plot. and Tabe Mikako (the girl who plays Ito) generally annoys me.
i'm only watching it because of tamaki and ayase! i'll give it one more episode!

The reason why this dorama looks slow is because the actions are more in the words being said. Therefore, unless one really understands 100% of what is being said, it is a difficult drama to understand. This drama is taken from literature, that's why. It was nominated for the very prestigeous Naoki Prize for literature in Japan for year 2007, though it lost to another novel. As to myself, I am really glad I picked up this drama. I really like it and think this is a very intelligent piece of writing. It is a combination of imagination, intellect, and ironic or black humor. It reminds me of the age of Absurdism in Europe. However, it is not everyone's cup of tea, so if some people don't like it, I completely undestand that. I suggest at least you watch 2-3 episodes *with subs* first, before dropping it. If the scriptwriter or director fail to bring the novel to life, then it is really a pity. The people who gave reviews on the novel said that it is very interesting. I read that the novel might be more interesting if made into a drama (with CG ability). Let's see how it will go.
Sorry that I am rather slow with the sub, I have just recently finished Nodame SP so I took a break for a while.

Take as much break as you need. Nodame SP was lots of work. I'm just sitting back and taking it easy, not jumping to conclusions about the show without seeing it subbed.
I enjoyed lots of what I saw in episode 1, but there was lots that went over my head. That's why I'd already decided to wait for subs before forming an opinion, so I've been waiting to post. I found his bad luck moments to be funny. So far, I'm considering this one intriguing.

I'm curious about that monster we've been seeing the fin of, as well as the deer and what they want from him. Figures that's the stuff where I understand the least Japanese. LOL
The parallels between his character and Ayase's are cute. And I get a good laugh out of the scenes like where he proposed to the other girl only to learn she wanted to marry the guy he hates. The flashback to his bad luck as a kid, and his train travels were funny too.
Mostly, I'm struck by how stunningly beautiful Nara is. It's gorgeous, and I would think it must be incredible to film in such a location. It feels like the episode is laying groundwork, even if I don't understand it.
And, I don't know if anyone else here has ever seen the anime BlueSeed, but

When they were looking at the little jade stone and stringing it, I suddenly had this moment of thinking....
"Hey, they found Momiji's mitama!" LOL
