Jin Yong did a lot of research for his novels. He often write his stories to fit historical accounts. Although, I must admit, sometime it get me frustrated that most of his novels end in sad note.
I just skimmed through the ending episodes... The main character's love for the princess is played down, unlike the novel. |
Now presumably that we have already watched the ending at the 30th (all of us who read up to this posting)... does elsonlam1 care to enlighten us what's the original ending that Jin Yong wrote? There must be an in Indonesian translation of this "Chin Yung" story when I was a kid, but I do not recall that I had ever read it, I might have missed it  It looks like Jin Yong likes his characters to have one and only one beloved at the end... I am so sorry, I dont usually check these posts. I'll post this and pm you a copy of this in case you still care.
I dont remember the names so I will refer to the princess as "the princess" and whenever you see me write "the first girl" I mean the girl the main character ended up with.
In the novel, the main characters actually falls in love with princess. Hopelessly in love. He couldnt stop thinking about her. But he ended up staying with the first girl because it was the right thing to do. Throughout the novel there are small events that would teach the main character that sometime he has to set aside his personal feeling and do what's right. I didnt watch the series. But in the novel, when the first girl left her family (after discovering the truth about them), the main character promises to always be with her. And at the end of the novel, he decided to keep his promise. Especially now that everyone close to the first girl has died and she will be alone if he goes with the princess.
In the final battle, while fighting against the Taoist, the main character saw both girls and started thinking. He realized that he loves both of them in different ways. Then he started to compare himself to the Golden Snake guy. The main character saw first hand what a broken heart did to the 5-poisons sect's woman. He didnt want the same thing to happen to the first girl. So he decided that he should stay with her
(In the Duke of Mount Deer, the princess also make an appearance. She's the 1-handed nun who is the teacher of 1 of Xiao Bao's wife. She also taught Xiao Bao's servant a little bit about fighting)
(During the last revision of Heaven Sword and Dragon Sabre, the main character actually ended up with 2 girls)
