I was just wondering, how come most of the Chinese series (at least the ones that I've come across) have more episodes in the China version (usually in VCDs) compare to the US version (usually in DVDs)?

Mostly it's the same. Episodes in DVD version is slightly longer (about 5-8 min) than the VCD version.
