PowerDVD should play .SRT files (Won't play .SSA and I'm not sure about the others) however I find that when it plays the subtitles - it completely messes around withmy picture and makes it fuzzy. So maybe getting another player would help? *shrug*

Well, first thing to do: Read the FAQ!

Then, as usual, I recommend the VLC-Player. Because it is easy to use - not only for Beginners - and you don't need to download or install any codec or other crap. So there is not much to worry about.

Goto:
http://www.videolan.org/vlc/
download player Ver 0.8.6a
install player
watch dorama
(This version seems to understand unicode)

There are a few rules though:
No extended characters in names.
(Seems like 0.8.6.a is now able to handle extended characters in filenames)

For Softsubs:
Movie- and subtitle-file in the same directory.
Identical names, suffixes not in capitals.
VLC does not recognize .ass-files. Rename to .ssa (technically the same anyway).
Unicode in subtitles isn't displayed correctly.

With version 0.8.6 it seems that subtitles are enabled by default. So there should be nothing else to do but enjoy.

As I said: enjoy

PS.: Lately there are some folks renaming *.idx-files to *.srt. I don't really get the purpose of this crap, but a healthy *.srt-file can be opened with notepad and should look like this:
Quote:
1
00:00:00,530 --> 00:00:03,230
His name is Iwase Ken.

2
00:00:03,230 --> 00:00:06,430
The pitiful man who showed up at the wedding hall

And make sure, there is a COMMA in the timing. DOT's won't do.

I believe questions should be answered no matter how old they are because there are people always seeking the answers and sometimes people don't understand FAQ's but need someone to help them out in detail. Not everyone's a sheep. Smile I don't think we should be questioning grave digging but rather thanking Jocutus for kindly bothering to help, don't you?

It is nice that he's willing to answer. So I hope I didn't offend you, jocutus. I apologize if I did. And perhaps you're right, Ichigono, about the grave digging. I still stand by the FAQ, however. If they couldn't bother to read the FAQ, why should anybody bother to help them? And it's true that some people don't understand the FAQ, but rarely do those people that SAY they didn't understand it have actually READ the FAQ. At best, they skim it. If they exhibit some ...proof, I guess, that they really tried to read it, then I agree wholeheartedly to help them out. In regards to the questions answered in this thread, I will bet they didn't even touch the FAQ.

The FAQ is there to be read. I doubt jholic spent all that time to write it up just for it to be ignored.

jholic: Oh, I hope nobody reads my FAQ today!

Not likely, huh?
