The subs will be done C-E based on the YYcaF subs. As in I'll be translating from Chinese. I'll do my best to retain the original flavor of the dialog. But as with all translations something might be lost. What this also means is that I'll only sub episodes I can get from YYcaF (they are up to and if they stop, I'll have to stop
I had originally intended to used Grim Reaper to translate Shinigami. But I was worried that people might not be familiar with the mythos Grim Reapers derive from. Also, Grim Reaper is not quite tone neutral so some places I would have to use Reaper, but that sucks for consistancy.
So, for now, I've decided to use Death God to be the literal translation for Shinigami. It's a bit on the literal side, and not quite an elegant representation of the mythos the Shinigami are based on, but it's tone neutral and makes for slightly shorter lines... I've thought about Deathgod but that tends to play havoc on the spell checkers...
Anyhow, I'm still not committed to the translation of the term Shinigami. But, it's a very important term to the series, so I want to get some opinions. So, if anyone has comments/ suggestions on this, please let me know. After the first ep is released I intend to stick with one or the other. Thanks |
Thanks for subbing it. It doesnt really matter which translation you use but I personally always prefered Shinigami instead of Death God. Most people watching jdramas should be familiar with what Shinigami means...but either is fine

That's a good point, it didn't occur to me to just shinigami. Might be a good choice, it's neutral and their identity is pretty clear from their dress. I might end up using that.
Any other suggestion/comments?

Thank you for subtitling this show!
I also prefer the name Shinigami to Death God and definitely to Grim Reaper.
Note: while perusing the "Death Note" anime i observed that both the TW and C1
fansub groups used Shinigami while Live-Evil used "Death God" if that helps in your decision. I would have looked at the Shinigami no ballad anime but that is offline atm ;

err - is it ok if we, Skewed Studios, will release hardsubs (as our releases will be 704x396)? we have also finished translating and timed ep1 already - just waiting for Translation check (as the TC'r is a big fan of the series and currently has a sidejob translating the drama cds of it) and was supposedly to release softsubs then - but it's ok with us if we only release typesetted hardsubs (as long as it's also ok with ZeeSeeS-sama it's also fine if we only release hardsubs and not softsubs)

(btw - sorry i read this announcement just this day...)

Sorry, I didn't see any announcements. I looked and looked and didn't seem to see an effort in progress, so I started one up.
In general I just do subs of series I enjoyed but no one has subbed for long while. My main reason for subbing this is that I want to watch the series in HQ with softsubs. If you guys are doing a hardsub effort, it doesn't really conflict

Here's episode one. I notice that the main difference between the two version is there is a shift of about 1 second in timing between the two versions, so if you rename the file to match the 704x396 version, it should work fine. Even without doing that, it's not THAT bad...
