A while ago NFS announced that we were going to sub JTTW. But we've been hella sluggish and barely done anything at all except for getting chinese subs/timing. But now I am happy to say, that this project is really starting now.
~shinigami~ is indefinitely off the project, but _iris has joined this project to do all the translation, and any timing/editing etc. needed. Of course more help is always appreciated so if you want to help, just reply to the thread.
I think that we'll probably still be doing hardsubs, and I'll try to put them on direct links and torrent, but we'll also need help to seed it.
if anyone really wants softsubs, just express your interest here and I'll reconsider.
For anyone whose still not sure which JTTW this is, here are some screencaps:
EDIT: For those who can't download with torrents, or prefer direct download, heres a mirror link (I will add more as the project progresses, unless I decide torrent would be better):

UPDATE: Well, I have bad news. The translator for this project, _iris, won't be working on this for the time being due to exams. So I'll be needing a new translator or else this project will be on hold until we find one. For anyone willing, please PM me.
Thanks.

I should add that whoever would like to join with the translation don't have to download any large video files =) A user on youtube has been uploading all the episodes on this channel: http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=cougie47
Please join in and help sub this drama! xD

| An update: I've pretty much done all the editing/retiming, and will probably start encoding soon. I was wondering though, what codec would people prefer I encode in? (If anyone is reading this thread at all lol)

Oh okay. So any idea how big I need to make the font or how high up I need to place the subs?
EDIT: And also, what font and colour and size would be good for the subs?

Bankai:
I am coming pretty late to this party, but wanted to throw this into the mix: I have an off-the-air vhs copy of most of JTTW (1986) with English subs that I recorded off a San Francisco TV station about 1989-1990. Unfortunately, the video quality is pretty bad, although the translation is excellent. Have tried unsuccessfully to track down the producer. Would it be worth investing the next six months of my life in ripping to avi, and trying subrip to create the subs? I suspect even at that they would need considerable editing.

This may be equipment related. Very rarely do VHS tapes go bad just by sitting around and not being used. With time, the timing of the tape does get thrown out of whack because of the physical tape, such as sagging or curling of the edges due to the tape being stored improperly. But with technology like TBC, this can be corrected. I have professional S-VHS equipment that can correct these types of problems (just got through digitizing my Hawaii Five-O eps recorded in 1979.) I can offer my conversion services if need be.
