코마 (Coma)
5-part Korean horror series aired on OCN TV

Series Information

Main cast: Im Won-Hui, Lee Young-Jin, Lee Se-Eun
Synopsis (from AsianDB):
Quote:
The series begins as five people are gathered in a hospital, which is about to be shut down because of its bad reputation. The group, consisting of a nurse, doctor, detective, insurance company employee, and a woman who takes care of her friend in a coma, share a secret about a girl's mysterious disappearance at the hospital 10 years ago.

The first episode works as a general introduction of the series while each of the following programs is devoted to one of the five characters, showing how they are involved in the incident.

Ten years ago in the hospital, a young female patient mysteriously disappeared with no witness and no clues left. Ten years after the incident, the hospital is about to close due to countless medical accidents.

The director of the hospital, chief doctor Jang Seo-won and nurse Kang Su-jin discuss how to deal with the only remaining patient in a coma at the hospital. And an insurance company employee Yoon-young, the comatose patient's friend Hong-ah and detective Choi, who was in charge of the girl's missing case, visit the hospital. That night, they are mysteriously killed one by one.

Horror Film Series to Hit Television
More information (from YesAsia):
Quote:
OCN is one of Korea's most popular movie cable channels, and now they have entered the world of dramas. Teaming up with Sio Film (makers of Crying Fist), OCN produced the 5-part horror series Coma, which includes a mix of genres from mystery to psychological thriller. Coma puts established names like Yim Won Hee (Three, Extremes, Crying Fist) next to plenty of new faces. With the exception of Gong Su Chang, whose R-Point is one of the most impressive debut films of recent memory, the series is helmed by newcomers. Set in a hospital about to close down because of its negative reputation, the five episodes present different themes in a range of styles, but they connect with each other like puzzle pieces to form a complete picture.

"Birthday Party" (dir. Gong Su Chang)
Insurance saleswoman Yoon Young (Lee Se Eun) is in charge of the hospital's last remaining patient Lee So Hee, who is in a coma. While the hospital's director hopes to avoid taking any responsibility for the patient, chief doctor Jang Seo Won (Lee Jung Heon) wants to keep the patient there at all costs. 10 years ago, the patient's young sister disappeared mysteriously. She was in a comatose state as well, and strangely reminds Yoon Young of So Hee.

"Crack" (dir. Jo Gyu Ok)
Kang Su Jin (Myung Ji Yeon) is a veteran nurse in the hospital. She continues to be haunted by an accident that happened 10 years ago in the operating room. She wants a fresh new start with chief doctor Jang Seo Won, but all he seems to care about is the hospital's only patient, So Hee. Su Jin tries to find this patient, and learn why she's stealing so much of her boyfriend's time.

"Necklace" (dir. Yoon Jun Seok)
Detective Choi (Im Won Hee) has lost his passion for life, and now pursues money and nothing else. He was in charge of a case 10 years earlier dealing with a girl's disappearance from the hospital. The only clue he holds is the girl's necklace. He's come to the hospital for only one reason: blackmailing the hospital's director. He needs money to raise his daughter and has to stop this hospital from closing at all costs.

"Crimson Red" (dir. Kim Jeong Gu)
Designer Hong Ah (Lee Young Jin) has a peculiar talent: she can see dead people. By now she's gotten used to the blood and horrible corpses, but one day a corpse appears, asking Hong Ah to kill her. She finds out about a patient in the hospital, a certain So Hee who is now in a state of coma.

"Doctor, Jang Seo Won" (dir. Gong Su Chang)
The hospital's shut down is just a few days away, but chief doctor Jang Seo Won believes he can save his last patient, So Hee. Five people meet each other at the scene of his last operation and a mysterious series of murders starts.

Interesting synopsis! I'm starting to see some little transformation in Kdrama in which I took that as a positive sign that they're finally changing for the better. I hated the Korean wave sensation, I thought that it was the cause of all the shallow but trendy Kdramas that were produced one after another with the exact same storyline for the past couple of years. The Kdramas in the early 90s were much more diverse and interesting. I'm glad to see some fresh new ideas in Kdramas now. This sounds like a tight one. Thank you very much for the upload!!! If this continues, I might seriously think about start watching Kdrama again pinch.

Sounds interesting, aspects of the synopsis reminiscent of Lars von Trier's Riget (the original, not the horrible US remake as Kingdom Hospital). Interesting enough that I'm d/ling it and it'll be my first KDrama. Guess I'll know who to blame if I now get hooked on KDrama as well as JDrama. Tongue

Thanks for the upload and all the info!

Thanks for releasing this! Haven't seen any Horror series from Korea, just movies. It's a nice change from the sad shows. Look forward to watching it.

Hi

Does anyone has problem with the subtitle? I cannot open them at all. Looks like it's not the usual SRT format.
