I use two applications for DVD authoring:
TMPGEnc DVD Author - Very quick and easy if you're looking for something that has everything already prepared for you.
DVD-lab PRO - This is professional-grade DVD authoring software. It allows me to write my own DVD scripts (in simple terms, I have full control of the buttons, menu options, transitions, buttons on your remote control, etc.) To see what you can do with this software, here's a sample VIDEO_TS build I created:

ConvertXtoDVD - I wouldn't exactly call this a DVD authoring tool. Most gurus would consider "authoring" as actually constructing a DVD. Other tools like Nero and ConvertXtoDVD are just simply MPEG-2 ripping products that also creates VIDEO_TS for you in one package. But they gives you very very little control of the menus and such. What I do instead is rip the AVI to MPEG-2 using ConvertXtoDVD, then I bring the result into TMPGEnc DVD Author and author my own menus.

thats a nice menu..
I'm having problems with TMPGenc, how do you convert with ConvertXtoDVD? do you just convert it as DVD with the menu and stuff and then take the files (.vob) and put it to DVDLabPro? or is there a way to not have it as menu and not contstruct a DVD? _________________ watching: ROCH2006/Nobuta Wo Produce/Nine Tailed Fox

Once you get the VIDEO_TS folder with ConvertXtoDVD, I use TMPGEnc DVD Author to extract the tracks and save them as MPEG-2 files. Then once you have those files saved, you can basically pick whichever DVD authoring tool you want.
As for using ConvertXtoDVD, it only converts to VIDEO_TS.

Just wondering, have you ever had that problem and know how to fix it? |
As far as I know about DVD-Lab Pro, it does not understand formatting tags within the various subtitle file formats (SSA, SUB, SRT, etc.) So if you've done anything fancy in your subtitles file, it won't be used in DVD-Lab Pro. Also, you should set your margin settings so that it also addresses the overscanning issue with TV sets that overscan (keep in mind that even flat-panel displays overscan.) Overscanning is the cause of your subtitles being cut off on the sides, and possibly even on the bottom. I believe the default settings is for the left/right margins is 64/64, so you may want to try increasing those settings.

Bogchi, have you tried this http://www.d-addicts.com/forum/viewtopic_25416.htm ? It should fix any subtitle problems you have.

Yes, there are six eps on the disc. NOT on the downloadable example though (it's only 5MB).

| I like to use ConvertXtoDVD. Sure I can't do fancy menus and such but all I want to do is watch it on my TV rather than my monitor and for that task it does quickly and consistently.

| It would be nice to see some screenshots of our dvd's. Or even better, videos of the results. Right now I'm fixing my subs, as soon as I finish, I plan to show you my results. ^_^
