It depends on the genre:

Jidaigeki/chanbara - movies
Romance - series
Comedy - series
Crime dramas - series

So I voted for series.

The big advantages of movies are less censoring and more artistic freedom. Their biggest drawback is their shortness is the fact that it is hard to develop feelings for a character you've only known for 2 hours, whereas you really get attached to drama character whose lives you follow for many, many hours. There's also the fact that a movie can't tell a really grand, epic story in just under 2 hours, at least not the kind of epic story you see in dramas like Angel.

Still, the censoring of network channels really bugs me... Crying

I voted series, but I'm rather torn. Real perfect would be uncensored, more daring and more artistic epic series, but that's not going to happen soon, I guess.

I mostly like movies, but it's also depends on the genre:

a good back to back action like kick a**, hand to hand, bodily combat, swords play, gun games, has to be a movie; rated R

a good bloody, scray thriller has to be a movie; rated R

a sci-fi has to be a movie; rated PG

an heroic legendary or historical saga has to be a series

romance has to be a series

I voted series, though I always try to check out the movie versions. I tend to go for series first though because when there is more character development you feel more for the characters and it's better not knowing what's going to happen to them, whereas if you are watching the movie version you will already know, and it will take away from the surprise or how you might feel for it.

Movies most of the time -- some drama series just feel too long with too much filler and too many directors. The deadline demands and budget constraints can also hurt a series' quality. I think movies also have more of the pros in acting, directing, and music, that have graduated from tv. Kinda like how you won't see Al Pacino or Tom Hanks in a sitcom anytime soon.

Yeah, but that's just just the way it is in the US - TV is regarded second-rate movies where B-actors will be accepted but no Tom Hanks or Charlize Therons. In Asia, however, many A-list movie actors will star in dramas from time to time.

It all depends on your mood and what sort of entertainment you're looking for. Movies are generally more entertaining than series. They move at a faster pace, usually have a better storyline and have a bigger budget for special effects etc. However, as Néa Vanille has already pointed out, the short length of a movie doesn't leave enough room for character development and you end up not being attached to the characters like you do in series.

At this point in my life though, I prefer series since I'm much more mellow than I used to be, and I kinda prefer the slow-ish pace of series and getting some sort of emotional attachment towards the characters, esp. if they're pretty ones like SHK and KTH :Tongue

I love me some series, but if there's a movie made from the series it can add a lot sometimes.
