I just downloaded the CCCP on my computer and it works fine. The quality of these episodes appear to be fantastic, especially for the file size. Thanks for uploading

You now know why we're going with h.264 codec for our releases! Expect more of the same in the future... _________________ I am not obsessed. I am just very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very focussed...

If it aint broken, don't fix it. |
Umm... I love Xvid, but calling what's become a broadcast-industry standard codec "very beta" is way off. Animation doesn't show as much difference, as a frame of animation doesn't hold anywhere near the color range found in live video. But did you bother looking at the second page of your link? Here ya go:
http://www.xile.net/xvid_vs_x264/720p.html
Even at 3000k Xvid, look at the obvious blockiness in the guy's face and vest. compare that to the h.264 one, and then go down a bit further and look at the comparison between the ones at 1,000K (much closer to the data rates you find here).
Admittedly, this guy could have encoded it better, but it does help display the difference in quality (though a 2-pass encode and some resolution, etc. setting changes could narrow it up).
Still think that Xvid scales down anywhere near as well as h.264? _________________ I am not obsessed. I am just very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very focussed...

Were you aware that Quicktime incorporates an h.264 codec? Give it a shot... _________________ I am not obsessed. I am just very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very focussed...

h264 all the way
I own a 24 inch Dell monitor where I watch everything. In fact yesterday I gave away my old TV to a friend who needed one ( I haven't even switched it on in months).
Anyway, once you begin watching stuff in this size you notice all the artifacts and little noises there are. And by large h264 is the best I've seen so far, specially when I get my little dirty hands on 1024i file. It's amazing the detail it conveys, Even DVD 800x600 is not so crisp and clear.
So thank you for going for better codec.
For updates in codecs go to www.afterdawn.com
You can either go for install individually each codec you need, get a a pack like Klite, or an all around codec like FFDSHOW.
For a Player I recommend VLC or, if you dont mind the advertising, BSPlayer. Media Player Classic is also a very good one. And all of them support h264 once the codec is installed.
And for watching in TV, check if your VGA has a yellow RCA in the back or a little 5 point connector either one is a TV signal. Take a picture of it, another of the back of your TV where the connectors are and go to a radio shack or similar. They will sell you the cable you need.
