Yeah, it's sad. But at least he died doing the thing he loves most.

What I'm more sad for is his family that he left behind.

I happened to catch CNN International last night when they reported this story. I always thought if something like this happened it would be with a croc or a snake at least. When I heard it was a stingray I almost didn't believe it. I know lots of people that have been stung by stingrays, but never heard of anyone dying from it. It's pretty tragic, but yeah he died doing what he loved.

I'm very stunned. I have always believed he would be killed by an alligator, a poisonous snake, or a vicious beast or something. Not a stingray. If it hasn't strike him at the heart, he would have a chance of survival. That's very sad, though.

That's exactly what I thought after the initial shock (I thought it was a joke at first). You can't ask for more, doing what you loved until the very last minute.

It is such a shame that The Croc Hunter did die. Stingray barb to the chest and later died from a heart attack due to it. I didn't know that he was well known around the world as much as he is in Australia here...

yeah it's basically everywhere on the news here in Australia. latest news I heard was that he pulled out the barb from his chest and died from losing too much blood.

on the bright side, his daughter seems to be following his footsteps becoming the next croc. hunter.. Smile

It's really sad. I always thought he was kind of crazy, but he clearly enjoyed what he was doing.

Steve Irwin was very well known and popular here in the U.S. I think you would have had a hard time finding Americans who hadn't heard of him even before this tragedy.

Agreed. He even made a movie so it's pretty hard to not have heard of him. I also heard that they're still deciding about the mourning and might have a state funeral if the family wants. It's such a tragedy..Like many have said, I also thought he was going to die from a croc or snake... But in a way, it was better that it wasn't from those. I mean, he was an expert and seem to know what he was talking about so it's be pretty ironinc if he died that way...
