Did you try playing the earlier episodes again? There may be some change on your PC?
There is no change in the video encoding.

i have a question.. especially maybe to chiisana_tantei because you do the encoding.. could i ask you is there a specific reason why the video size is 704x396 (is it because the original dvd has that res)? i'm not too good at video encoding, but from my experience encoding at around 624x352 (hdtv res) yields better result compared to 704x396 when they are at the same file size. For simple example, try look at smallville/24/alias/ .avi. hdtv encoding They're around 40 minutes also, with same xvid and mp3 encoder, the filesize is around 350MB, yet *IMO* the picture looks great.. they're comparable to dvd quality..
If you don't mind maybe you could try encoding @624x352 with a somewhat larger bitrate so that the final result goes around 350-400MB, compared to 704x396@440MB, and see which is better. This is just a suggestion anyway.
btw Thx for all the ROCH team for the efforts, and please keep up the good work.

Now we're getting technical.
The reasoning behind 704 is because the DVD resolution is 720x480. After cropping the left and right black area, I'm left with 704 pixels. Thus having 16:9 ratio will give me 704x396. I tried encoding the video to 640x360@440MB and I don't see any major improvement at all.
There are many variables in getting a crisp video. One of them is a good video source.
From what I've seen (out of all DVD versions out there), there is NO good (up to my standard ) DVD quality for ROCH. Yes, it is very unfortunate.

Hmmm, this is quite interesting topic...
I really don't think in Malaysia, there are ROCH in HDTV format... only DVD with no English subtitle.
HDTV technology is all about High Definition technology, people said that the difference between DVD format and HDTV format is like when U watch the DVD format is like U looking into a mirror and when U watch the HDTV format is like U looking into a very, very clear water (it means HDTV quality is more like watching a real world)
Anyway, HDTV is very new technology, it is very rare to see people using HD DVD or Blu-Ray stuff to watch film or dramas in Malaysia.
gryfon, I think I understand what U mean, smallville (CANADA) and Prison Break (USA), U can get these files in the internet in HDTV quality, my friend said that is because the fanatic fans of that dramas record the drama they just seen in their High Definition TV using High Definition recorder, High Definition hardware... (I think it is quite expensive)... and then they upload it on the internet for sharing.
chiisana_tantei was right, if U want a very high quality video, then U must have a good video source. That's why although the resolution is low, it is still have good quality, one of the reason is because of its source. [HDTV quality better than DVD quality]
Anyone have HDTV quality of ROCH? maybe someone in China just recorded this ROCH they see in High Definition TV using High Definition recorder???

@chiisana_tantei
i see, i think it's my mistake to think that anything that comes from original dvd must have a similar quality. Yes you're right, i now remember reading on yesasia or somewhere (not roch movie though), eventhough it's dvd quality the result are somewhat not satisfying, and the reviewer says this is a common problem to all hk/mainland dvd.. so i guess my statement is not valid.. lol
and i just checked my friends ROCH dvd compared to the avi.. they're pretty equal in quality.. it seems the dvd image quality indeed sucks ..
@crazylife123
afaik only korea&japan has hdtv for tv broadcast, not sure for other asian countries..
@malay_tiger
hd dvd / blu ray is very rare.. both the player *AND* the movie..
IMO there could not be hdtv for ROCH.. if they have HDTV quality,the dvd should not be that bad in image quality..
