I enjoyed the movie (which came before the drama) much more.
Because it was contained in the span of 2+hrs, it stayed away from japanese drama cliches and was able to tell a beautiful story. It had been a while since Japan had made a movie that well put together in telling a tragic love story and it's healing process.
I honestly haven't finished the dorama... due to the fact that I was catching it's reruns on TV last year... and they showed two eps a day... couldn't finish it that way.
Although... this movie has forever set the male lead (not Osawa) as "Saku" in my eyes... When I was watching Kikenna Aneki, I kept calling him "Saku"...

They do have different casts.
I watched the drama series before I watched the movie and I must say, the movie is rather disappointing. I mean, it was no where near as sad and touching as the series and I didn't cry at all. On the drama, I practically bawled my eyes out on every episode. I guess its natural that it wouldn't be as good. You can't really fit that much sadness and drama into less than 2 hours of video and expect it to be the same.
