200k/s you mean? Which is around ~2mbit? If you do, please help. My max ul is 30k/s but I contribute what I can until I reach 100%+ UL/DL ratio salut

Bandwidth... think of it as a pipe where information can flow, and the width is how much information can be passed around. The bigger the pipe, the faster the information flow.

Generally the width is measured in "bits". 8 bits make 1 "byte". 1kb= 1000 byte, 1mb = 1000kb and so on. If someone says they have a 1.5m/300k connection, it basically means you can expect to download ROUGHLY at 150k/s and upload at 30k/s. Even though 1.5 megabit is actually 187.5 kilobytes ( 1.5mbit/8 ), there's an overhead so expect only around 150k/s download.

When you go shopping for broadband (a connection with a "broad" bandwidth aka "fast connection"), look for how big the width is. They will tell you the download and upload bandwidth, the download is how fast you RECIEVE information and upload is how fast you SEND.

That should cover the basics, I hope.. Big Smile

Just to correct a minor error, 1KB does not equal 1000bytes, it's actually 1024bytes(1MB = 1024KB, 1GB = 1024MB, etc) . Also watch out for the difference between a capitalized B(bytes) in KB whereas b(bits) in Kb.
So for a 3mbps down/ 256kbps up, your connection speed is roughly 366.21KBps(max) down and 31.25KBps(max) up.

FYI: A common confusion is the difference in standard with the harddrive industry where they consider 1000bytes = 1KB whereas your operating system is running on the standard 1024bytes = 1KB. That's why when you buy a harddrive, your operating system reports it less than the stated size on the harddrive description.
