I think he was 14 when he was first found by Guo Jing and she had just turned 18 when he got to quan zhen which wasn't too long after. So there is probably only about a 3-4 year difference in age. She's probably in her early to mid 20's now. I believe she still looked like she was 17 though.
I think the crying after falling from the tree was faked and overdone so the audience knows that he's faking. He pretty much quit crying after they weren't paying attention to him, and started again when Huang Rong wanted to speak to him. But after Huang Rong explains herself, he starts crying again and its still kind of over the top. I'm pretty sure he was crying sincerely at this point, but it didn't seem quite right.
"One minute he's playing tough and threatening to kill the priests, then he's playing rude and ignoring that girl (Huang Ru's daughter), then he goes off to crying Goggle eyes"
He is supposed to be that way. He tends to shift moods really quickly. I don't necessarily think he was suppose to be cold, at least not til way later on and I didn't in particually feel that was in particularly cold, but I think the reason he is so playful and childish is because he is lonely. Also he spent years in the tomb with just XLN and very little human contact beyond that.

It's really nice cuz my life isn't going very well right now... ROCH is soo good and i'm so addicted that it takes me to another world where nothing matters except Guo'er and his Gugu..... i decided to start learning Mandarin just so that I could eventually go back and watch this series w/o having to rely on the subs.
Thank you sooooo much subbers! You have NO idea how much this series means to me, especially right now of all times! I don't know what I would do with myself if I didn't have this series to take my mind of of things! Thank you SO much! |
lol u sound very koo and funny im not that addicted but yea still want to watch it coz of GuGu . Man she only 20 but soo hot . But i think i'll learn cantonese and read the chinese sub. |
I signed up just to post a thank you for subbing this series... and also a few comments.
Has anyone seen the ROCH 95 version? I personally think it is a LOT better than this one... the main guy Yang Guo is so CHILDISH in this series it really ruins the mood for me, but like many of you guys here, I watch it for the story and gugu, she truly is hot . Carmen Lee's not bad either but she's old now -_-.
The fighting in this is also crappier than ROCH 95? Even when Yang Guo and his Gugu were learning the Maiden sword play it looked more like dancing than actually practicing martial arts, maybe it's just me hehe. I dont see too many swords clashing, mostly computer graphics stuff and people flying around like there's no gravity lol.
Just my opinion on the series, don't flame me, I dont hate it but I do have some complaints/suggestions/comparisions, what do you guys think? |
In this version, Huang Xiao Ming wanted to portray the mischeivious Yang Guo. If he was 18 or just look 18...then maybe being too childish in the series wouldn't be a bad thing...HXM shouldnt have dubbed his own voice. He's not a professional. I think that really kill his character/acting as well. One thing about this Yang Guo that the previous one didnt capture was his evil side. HXM showed a little evil side of Yang Guo. I bet a few people here dont even notice that...they only see XLN...LOL
As for the Maiden Sword play...the dance scene...it would consider Martial Art...I think they were practicing internal energy...however, ' the dance ' ... IMO...i believe it was Yang Guo's fantasy...because right before they started to float in the air...you could see a split image of themselves coming out from their body. Just my opinion.
Come on...don't even compare the 95 version fight scenes with this one...you have to be kidding...95 version fight scenes lasted 5-10 seconds.

i agree that yang guo is childish like in this series, but i heard he gets more mature as the series progresses. but umm as for the fighting cause i seen the 11ep already i think is pretty crazy, the diffrence with the 2006(2005?) and 1995 is that the 95 didn't have much to work with budget was low and they didn't have the technolgy to do what we can now. This recent one has a lot of WORK done in to it, crazy fighting but i bit too crazy with the golden monk you will see next episode ahahaha but none the less i think this is going to be better than the 95.
P.S iono if its just me, but this series i can't feel the love between XLN and YG yet ? |
IMO, this version shows how YG turned from a mischievous youngster to a legendary hero.
As of right now...XLN and YG are still confuse about their love. XLN still treat YG as a little kid...You'll see it on the next Episodes. YG missed his Gugu..but is it love? He seem to be a little hesitant about his love for her.
People tend to stick with the first ROCH they watched. However, i believe that newcomers to the series will enjoy the new one.

YG is younger than XLN but he suppose to look older than her. XLN will look like that even in her 30s/40s...read the book and you'll find out why.

The problem with the current Yang Guo actor is he's taking the "playful" part too far, he's suppose to be a lonely & cold because his parents died when he was young. Last episode he started crying to Huang Ru (spelling?) like a little kid, which just makes his character look FEEBLE |
Lonely and Cold? I dont think so buddy... YG has the same personalities as his father. That's the reason why his Aunt (Huang Rong) was scared to teach him any martial art and sent him away. She thought he was going to be like his father.

And the part where he climbed off the tree and started crying about how much it hurts??? wtf? It was so fake. I know it's a MOVIE and not all things are real, but at least be more CONVINCING, good God... I dunno what the directors were thinking, were they trying to make it seem funny cuz I wasn't laughing, I just thought it was a waste of time lol. They're developing Yang Guo into a big baby!
|
I don't think they were trying to be humorous. They wanted to show that YG didnt have any martial art skills.

LYF seems to be playing XLN beautifully though, I haven't seen anything stupid as Yang Guo's crybaby nature. There was the one part where she drew her picture next to him, she's suppose to be a really cold person too, one minute she's saying "Everyone must die one day" (referring to Granny Sun's death) next thing she draws her picture next to young Yang Guo... If I was the director of this movie... what I would do for that scene is:
Yang Guo & XLN come back from the temple to bury Granny Sun. After that, he sees a stick figure of someone on the wall, and he asks her what it was. She'd tell him it was a picture she drew of herself when she first came to the Tomb as a little girl. Then he draws a picture of himself next to her. That would of been a much better portrayal of XLN, and also allude to her having a soft side as well (despite her comments on Granny Sun's death).
|
i believe you're comparing this version with the 83 or 95 version which the two version followed the 1st edition of the novel. However, this version followed the 3rd edition of the novel. A few things were changed. 83/95's XLN were cold and dull...they had little emotions...Jin Yong wanted to change her characteristics...he didnt want a lifeless XLN when she's a very important character to the story. 3rd edition, XLN is much warmer...she'll have more emotions. i didnt like the old XLN as much. thought carmen lee's XLN was stiff but yet it might be just her role/characteristics...it was just one dimensional.

XLN ...in episode 9/10...she's around 22 and YG around 18. She suppose to look younger than him and most of the other characters throughout the series...
