I signed up just to post a thank you for subbing this series... and also a few comments.
Has anyone seen the ROCH 95 version? I personally think it is a LOT better than this one... the main guy Yang Guo is so CHILDISH in this series it really ruins the mood for me, but like many of you guys here, I watch it for the story and gugu, she truly is hot . Carmen Lee's not bad either but she's old now -_-.
The fighting in this is also crappier than ROCH 95? Even when Yang Guo and his Gugu were learning the Maiden sword play it looked more like dancing than actually practicing martial arts, maybe it's just me hehe. I dont see too many swords clashing, mostly computer graphics stuff and people flying around like there's no gravity lol.
Just my opinion on the series, don't flame me, I dont hate it but I do have some complaints/suggestions/comparisions, what do you guys think?
Agreed... I personally like tvb version more overall. Louis Koo and Liu Yi Fei
damn wouldnt that be some crazy combination . Well Louis got popular after ROCH 95

yeah but he looks too old now, even though he's suppose to be younger than her, pitching Lous Koo & LYF would not look too compatible, maybe if he was younger.
The problem with the current Yang Guo actor is he's taking the "playful" part too far, he's suppose to be a lonely & cold because his parents died when he was young. Last episode he started crying to Huang Ru (spelling?) like a little kid, which just makes his character look FEEBLE .
And the part where he climbed off the tree and started crying about how much it hurts??? wtf? It was so fake. I know it's a MOVIE and not all things are real, but at least be more CONVINCING, good God... I dunno what the directors were thinking, were they trying to make it seem funny cuz I wasn't laughing, I just thought it was a waste of time lol. They're developing Yang Guo into a big baby!
LYF seems to be playing XLN beautifully though, I haven't seen anything stupid as Yang Guo's crybaby nature. There was the one part where she drew her picture next to him, she's suppose to be a really cold person too, one minute she's saying "Everyone must die one day" (referring to Granny Sun's death) next thing she draws her picture next to young Yang Guo... If I was the director of this movie... what I would do for that scene is:
Yang Guo & XLN come back from the temple to bury Granny Sun. After that, he sees a stick figure of someone on the wall, and he asks her what it was. She'd tell him it was a picture she drew of herself when she first came to the Tomb as a little girl. Then he draws a picture of himself next to her. That would of been a much better portrayal of XLN, and also allude to her having a soft side as well (despite her comments on Granny Sun's death).
Maybe I should be a director lol, anyone wanna act?

I haven't read the novel. For those people who read it, what's Yang Guo's personality like? I think he's supposed to be childish and playful? On what point does he change from childish and playful to mature? We have to compare the series to the actual novel. That can help a bit to explain why we're seeing this.

Well you cant expect everything to be perfect im happy with LYF as XLN. But damn u got good imagination skill and so, i say you should be a director . Yea i agreed his liek all big and he cry .... . Btw i was talking about Louis koo age in ROCH 95 . Andy Lau version back in the 80s i think was too much of All about love .
I dont know about Yang Guo's personality becoz i watch ROCH 95 and i was convinced that Yang Guo's personality is pretty good. Well there should be no more crying after episode 10 ? i hope so .
Well this is my personal opinion if you disagreed dont liek it then im sorry .

He is supposed to be childish and playful (somewhat whiny as well) , just in this version its kinda overboard, so I can't tell when he's faking or not.
IIRC he's supposed to look older than her by this point in the story. Its the reason everyone's so surpriesd that she was his master.
As far as maturing,
Hidden:
He gets 16 years to mature about 2/3's or so through the story.

I think, the reason why he fell of the tree and started crying too much, was because he wanted the others to think that he doesn't know any martial arts. If you look at the previous episode, he lied to his aunt and uncle that the people at yang palace didn't teach him any martial arts. Someone who has practiced martial arts wuxia style would have just jumped or flown of the tree, but since Yang Guo doesn't 'know' any martial arts, he has trouble climbing from the tree.

Yeah, I know what they were trying to do but they went way overboard with that. let me ask you this: How did he get UP the tree in the first place? Climbing up is much harder than getting down, not to mention... you DONT need to know martial arts to climb up a tree, all you need are working arms and legs, and a little coordination. Hell that tree wasn't even that high, you can so tell he's faking all that crying.
Don't get me wrong, I love people that fake emotions, that's why they are called actors, because they're good at ACTING (being "fake" because they're someone other than themself). But like I said, it should be believable, the audience should be swayed by the acting to see past the acting and somehow sympathize with how or why the actor is acting a certain way. Falling off a 10ft tree and crying like a little girl for 5 minutes is not good acting... it's forceful and unconvincing.
Go watch My Sassy Girl, that's good acting. Even though you know in real life stuff like that doesn't happen (well, probably not. I've met some pretty crazy drunk girls..) you can connect with the characters, and feel what it's like to be in their shoe. I cannot put myself into Yang Guo shoes, he's like a drunk woman on her period. One minute he's playing tough and threatening to kill the priests, then he's playing rude and ignoring that girl (Huang Ru's daughter), then he goes off to crying

Okay, heres something i thought about yang guo acting too childish, the part where you talk about him getting off the tree was too fake and whiny. i think its because the actor was trying to act as if yang guo was acting like he didn't know martial arts. Its not the actors bad acting at that part, but the actor is trying to portray yang guo's bad acting. We wouldn't know that it was an act unless yang guo made it obvious that he was acting.
