I've posted a new version of Episode 5, in separate English and romaji versions, as usual.
Sorry about the delay. After the recent comment, I've lost some enthusiasm for subtitling. I'll try to keep going with the revisions, but the pace may be somewhat slower.

OK, I've got some free time to work on revising the subs. My question is, should I? If anyone out there is interested in having improved versions of Eps 6-11, I'd like to know. If there's little or no response, I'll probably give this thing a rest, and go work on something else.

No, it's okay, I think u done enough already and I REALLY appreciate it. Have you seen "Iguana no Musume (Daughter of an Iguana)"? I don't know, but it seems like it was created by the same ppl. They have the same girl, same kind of music, and same kind of wacky story...hehe. I only saw the first episode and it's pretty good.

Thanks for the opinion. I'm looking for what to tackle next, but I don't think Iguana should be the one -- the person who's posting, awrittensin, is already creating subtitles for it. I was thinking perhaps of a single-episode show like "Earthquake", recently posted by massaru. I don't want to step on anyone's toes, though -- does anyone know of any person or group who's planning to take that one on?

(November 24, 2006)

I'm moving these old comments away from the top entry, to try and clean things up a bit.

Aruganon no Hanataba wo

(January 17 or so) Here are my first passes at subtitles for the first two episodes of Aruganon ni hanataba wo, in English and Japanese. I think they're good enough to follow the story, but there are some parts I couldn't get, so they're not intended to be a finished product. Any additions and corrections to these files would be much appreciated. I'll incorporate the changes and repost improved versions when they're ready.

(January 24) Here's English and romaji-Japanese subtitles for Aruganon, episode 3. Since it looks like these subtitles are likely to be used for a while without further revision, I've omitted some of the notes-to-myself in the more doubtful English subtitles. The corresponding Japanese subtitles still have the [???]'s and [tbd]'s. Hope you enjoy it, and it's on to episode 4...

(January 31) Here's Episode 4, same deal. Since I'm getting absolutely zero feedback (hint, hint) about errors and omissions in the subs, I'm writing them more and more as if they'll be used without revision, at least for a while. This means that some of the lines (not a lot) are plausible approximations based on context, rather than comments like [what the heck is he saying here]. Enjoy...

(February 6) Whew, just finished Episode 5. A long slog, this one was, though I think the final product is reasonably OK. Captions for the dinner party scene, Haru's big talk with his boss, and anything involving the bread shop guys or Haru's sister are a bit spotty. Please point out any specific errors that you can, and I'll try to fix them.

(February 17) Wow, each one gets harder than the one before. Curse Haru's high IQ -he's using a lot harder words! Anyway, here's episode 6, containing some surprisingly accurate translation (where I had help from people more fluent than I), and some less so (where I didn't). As always, corrections would be exceedingly welcome.

(February 24) I'm back on the one-week schedule for episode 7! This one was a bit easier, and I managed it without consultation. There are a few gaps, still, which I've as usual filled by (1) guessing plausibly or (2) pasting in my take on the Japanese, {in brackets, like this}. Anyone who will send me an e-mail correcting any of the bracketed text I will consider a Truly Good Person. Only four episodes to go!

(March 3) Here's episode 8, in English and romaji, as always.

(March 8 ) Here's episode 9.

(March 14) And episode 10.

(March 21) Here's episode 1, revised. (Version 20 instead of version 14). Many, many fixes, though of course still not perfect. If you haven't started watching the show yet, I suggest you download this.

(March 25) Finally, here's the last episode, 11. See my post below for comments.

(March 31) Here's revised titles for Episode 2 (version 16 rather than 10). Like Episode 1, the previous version of this one was really ratty, so upload the new one if you haven't watched Episode 2 yet.

(April 3). And here's the new, improved Episode 3 (version 12 rather than 9). Use the new one if you can; it's a lot better, I think.

(April 7) Here's the revised version of Episode 4 (version 21 rather than 14). The older version wasn't too bad, so the new one is reasonably polished.

(April 11) Just a minor file rearrangement -- the revised Japanese subs (1-4), plus the old ones (5-11) are rebundled into a single file (version 2) to cut clutter a bit.

(April 19) Here's the revised version of Episode 5 (version 18 rather than 12). Lots of changes.

Hi. need help on playing the subs not much a computer guru. Any idea how to do this. never had a problem with subs. I can read along while the series playing but that would be pain in hands and neck reading it like the "Densha Otko Deluxe" which a read along by opening the file. Which the movie takes at least 1hr and 45minutes. Please any advice to make the SUBS work..... Arigato

Hi, folks. I've checked episode 1 and as far as I can tell, the name I'm using for the .srt (subtitle) file matches the name of the .avi file that gets downloaded. I generally use BSPlayer to play shows, and that works OK on my machine. VLC should work, too, but when I've used it, it hasn't found subtitle files automatically -- you have to specify them when you first open the file, or else set it later using preferences (or is it options?).

Could I get some feedback on how the subtitles are working for other people? Just post here saying, Yes, they work, or No, they don't, and, either way, tell what player you're using and perhaps what OS you're running. Thanks.

they work fine. just that the first 2 torrents/avi are misspelled nanataba so need to change to match, which is why i posted above earlier.

Oh, I knew that, once. I'd intended to mis-spell the subtitles to match the files, but I just forgot. Gomen ne.

Thank you for the subs. They play just fine for me (WMP with VobSub).
I gladly watch anything Miho Kanno is in - even without subs.

Before I burn the video and subs to DVDs, is anyone with Japanese skills considering
touching up the subs for the later episodes that contain some tbd's and ???'s?
If not, no big deal. I just want to avoid burning the series twice.

Thanks again debye for all the hard work.
