Since someone else is timing them, I don't think you need to worry too much about the times. I'm not a fansubber (I've try doing timing once but that's about as much fansubbing experience I've got =( ), but for translaters, don't they just have to have all the lines translated into a text file? Then it's up to the timer to go thru the video and timed the script according to the translation file? Oh, on this forum, the .srt file seems to be the most common for softsubs.
