Amen to that. X-Japan is amazing. I can listen to all 30+ minutes of Art of Life over and over, and then watch the video of the live from '93 - just incredible.
I'm not sure if it's been mentioned before, but there's a group call JrockRevolution that promotes jrock music. I think Yoshiki is the person responsible for it. It's a good resource for jrock info.
Speaking of Yoshiki - I was lucky enough to see him perform with a group called S.K.I.N. in Long Beach last year. The group was Yoshiki, Gackt, Sugizo, and Miyavi. They only played four songs, but it was awesome. Not sure if their music is available anywhere, but if you can get a hold of it, it's worth a listen.
Other JRock I like: B'z (they've been around forever, so they must be doing something right), L'Arc, Kagrra, Girgugamesh, Abingdon Boys School, GLAY
Other highly recommended J-artists:
Kobukuro (great duo, amazing voices, soft rock),
Sowelu (she's a cutie, R&B),
EXILE (dance, pop, R&B),
Chemistry (pop, R&B),
Ken Hirai (pop, R&B),
Spitz (soft rock)
Mr. Children (soft rock, one of the best selling artists in Japanese history, along with B's)
Mika Nakashima (soul)
Namie Amuro (dance, jpop, hip-hop)
Orange Range (hip-hop)
Utada Hikaru (pop, dance)
