What hardware is used to capture digital broadcasts (isdb-t) in japan? I have a friend in tokyo who wants to know so he can do captures.

What do fansubbers in japan use to do digital broadcast captures?

I don't know what most fanusbbers use but when I last went to Japan, which was quite some time ago, I was unable to find a hardware video capture card/box that would capture the digital broadcasts directly. So I used the video outputs on the supplied decoder box for the television (ie component/scart) and split it to the computers graphic card component input. You could also use a standard pc tv tuner with the correct inputs. This may not provide the absolute best picture and sound that may be possible but it was still quite decent.

I would definitely like to know too... My All-in-wonder method of capturing is defintely not the way to go... or at least it pales by comparison to the raw captures from most japanese sources i've seen.

use the latest HHD recorder and then re-emcode they are usually hdtv compatible. Smile

here is the spec

there are tones of those that would do the job properly

sadly the model you posted is analogue ntsc and not digital. Crying

also the standard used in japan is isdb-t not hdtv.

i wish someone who is actually making [RAW] captures will post in this thread Roll Eyes

Sorry to be smug, but if your friend is in Japan, why don't he just go to one of the Nihongo-friendly Japanese drama sites and ask there? If you're in Japan, speak Nihongo, and is capturing in digital, D-Addicts is one of the LAST places you'd be hanging out. It's only logical.
