I am considering buying the phillips dvp462 player but on amazon there are two products listed when I try to search for dvp462 (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/search-handle-form/104-3721372-2177554).
Is there a difference between the first two products listed in the link?

from what i can see, the phillips 642, the first one, is not region free, it seems play region 1 dvds, in other words, american movies, while the second one, the philips 642/37 says it region free. i would recomend buying the first one for its low price since i own one myself, its not region free, but u can hack it to be region free, its really easy, i just did it myself today, because i just bought the waterboys dvd, but i couldn't watch it because it was region 3, and the philips 642 only plays region 1, so i found a website that can change the dvd player to be region free and play all movies, so i would recomend buying the philips 642 to save money, and you don't have to buy it on amazon, just go to a best buy store and get one, (that's where i got mine). if you want to make it region free, i can give u the website, but it works fine if you just want it for wacthing dramas that you burned down

| Phillip 642/37 is available at Walt-mart ~ $57. I had it for while and decided to return it. Beware that divx playback only work when you create dvd with 4X writing speed. Anything faster than that (8x or 16x) you will have problem. The playback will freeze up. It is strange I always thought that the playback is a function of bit-rate of the video files not how fast the files were written on there.

i'm not sure what u mean by PAL, but it can play region 3 dvds if you program it to, and i think it can also play mpeg, if thats what some drama files are then it can, because i watch Fighting Girl that download and burned on a dvdr, if you want to make your dvd player region free, then just pm me and i will help you

i searched amazon.com for "dvp4624" and the first two products I see listed:
462 link
and
462/37 link
the second product is actually called phillips 462/37. |
Actually, they're the same thing. The first one is sold by Amazon directly, the 2nd is sold by affiliates only. That's why the difference in price and description. If you buy the one Amazon offers (at least as of a few weeks ago), you will get the 462/37. All the 462 players are basically the same thing, as far as I know.

You are talking about burning straight mpeg files to dvd iso format, like you want to archive them... yes the mpeg files play fine.
