Actually, Yamada-san looks pretty handsome in suit, not as too dorky as one suspects.
I think Itoh's acting of nervousness brings out Yamada's okatu personality.

Does anyone have info about these releases?
densha.otoko-1x01-640v480.divx.CMs-jro.avi
densha.otoko-1x02-640v480.divx.CMs-jro.avi
They appeared on a couple of torrent sites and I can't find any details on it.

It's a word that is heavily abused by American anime fans. My wife wrinkled her nose up when the temp called Yamada-san an otaku in the second episode, and just groaned that it was a really rude name to call someone. However, you'll find that on the net it's used by just about every fanboy and nerd-fanatic to describe themselves like some badge of honor.
The basic trend is that the American Japanophiles think that saying "nerd" in Japanese makes it sound more esoteric and intellectual. The fact is that the words for "nerd" and "geek" in English are losing their stigma, while Japanese is not the sort of language that sheds stigma very quickly. It's just one of the hilarious side-effects of blind fantasy-land orientalism I guess.
With the proper intonation and context, "otaku" can also mean "someone's home". I wonder what the origin of the "graceless and pathetic nerd" meaning was.
By the way, did anybody notice that Yamada-san works at a company called "Workaholic Temp Agency"?

Its a word thats heavily abused by japanese people too. The fact your wife cringed is cause you must not be dorky and hear it!!! haha
seriously though, my japanese friends throw out Otaku like anything, and densha otoko being called OTAKU is pretty much what i would expect. i cant imagine anyone saying NO HES NOT AN OTAKU, THE REAL DEFINITION IS MUCH DIFFERENT. It would be GUNDAM, ANIME, FEMALE FIGURE - dude's an Otaku!

Yes, yes he is. But it's still a rude thing to call him. For example, you may well be a clueless dork with a reading comprehension problem but it's still rude for me to say so.
